Stephen LaBerge cites multiple examples of people practicing real-life skills while lucid and achieving notable improvement in their waking lives.

One was a woman who needed to practice ballet, but had injured her ankle.
Another who wanted to improve his martial art.
And even a man who was nervous about a trumpet performance, and so practiced.

Many people use lucid dreaming for rehearsal, and believe me, it works surprisingly well.
      Are you dreaming?

I do think this is possible but it seems to work better with some skills than others. For example, I have used LDs to practice speeches (my fear) and to practice archery (improved very quickly thanks to LD) but for me it won't work on musical instruments. I think the more motor activity is involved and less sensory activity, the better.

The keys will sound the way that you think they should sound, ie. if you believe that you are playing it correctly, then it will sound correct, even if you hit the wrong keys. If you already know it and just need practice perfecting it, then it should work.
