      Post Classification Essay on Dreaming?

I'm having to write a classification essay for my english class and would like to do it on dreaming.
The only thing I can really think of was classifying dreams as

      A) Normal Non-Lucid Dreams
      B) Semi-Lucid Dreams
      C) Lucid Dreams

But this classification seems kind of basic and I'm hoping to think of something better. That is mostly because of the 'semi-lucid' dream.. I'm not sure if this would be a good classification. I do need more than two though -- or else then it would be a comparison essay.

Anyone have any suggestions on what I could do my classification essay with relation to dreaming?

      Thanks in advance!

Do it by induction methods...and the advantages/disadvantages of each?

      Lucid

      DILD

      WBTB (WILD, MILD)

      DEILD

      Non-Lucid

but I woulldnt get too technical about it.

maybe even...Lucid Dreams in settings you know..Lucid Dreams in unknown settings...then the same for non-lucid dreams...

      just some ideas

      How about:

      Normal Dreams
      Lucid w/ No Control
      Lucid w/ Control

I was going to suggest what james said, or maybe this: Nightmares, predict the future, night terrors, lucid dreams... If you want to take that route.

      This is the best

If you want a really interesting topic, that would be informative for the people using this site, this is what you should research, The pineal gland, and its production of DMT and the release of this chemical at night time, the reason why MAOI´s help lucid dreaming, the fact that DMT in larger quanities affects the memory of the experience, some examples to possibly peak your interest, the pineal gland gets calicified as people get older, following this it would show that it has very little calcification and more DMT release as a baby and very young child i.e. why we dont remember these times of our lives possibly why babies cry so much apart from the communication of hunger and potty issues, they see things but dont have much view of the world to interpret the experinece, same thing with children who have dreams and dont know how to deal with them from lack of spirtual guidance, ( I say spirtual guidance because research DMTs effects in larger doses such as drug use not just released from the brain) look into things such as peoples descriptions of somtihing more real in appearnce sound, and feel than the waking reality - I would say this would be the definition of Lucid

Peace I hope you choose the more interesting path

DILD and WILD aren't induction methods.

DILD = Dream Induced Lucid Dreams
WILD = Wake Induced Lucid Dreams

      They're categories.

But relative to your essay...there are really just two "types" of dreams as such, I suppose. Regular and lucid. But that doesn't mean you can't elaborate on both, going into everything from history of dreaming to modern lucid dreaming induction techniques and all such.

Have you read the paper by VanEden? It will give you some good examples of how to classify dreams. I think you can come up with your own interpretations after seeing how he tackled the issue.
