      Flying Realism/Thrilling?

If you could fly in real-life, it would probably be so thrilling that just lifting a couple feet off the ground would feel incredible and a bit frightening at first... Can flying in lucid dreams feel just as great if you take the proper steps to stabilize your dream and increase vividness + recall?

I ask because I have only had a couple low-level lucid dreams and in all of them I have flown but it really wasn't that great which I am assuming because I have bad recall and did not first stabilize my dream...

Lucid dreams, in my experience, can be every bit as real as real life. Like you said, taking the steps to stabilize the dream would also help a lot. I think that its less frightening in a dream because you know its a dream, and that its possible, and also that you're trying to do it while expecting it to work.
Don't worry about your first few being low level - they'll most certainly get better!

Man funny that you would post this... Just a sec ago I was thinking about the amazing realism of dream flight... On the rare occasion I fly in a dream.. Boy is it ever an AMAZING feeling!! I'm kinda scared of heights which makes me truly appreciate the realism of flying high...

Ok, thank you for the replies, because the main reason I'm into lucid dreaming is that I am assuming that flying would be an amazing experience.

I have exactly the same problem mate. I can (now) fly in lucid dreams but it does not thrill me at all... I have been told that it depends on how lucid you are. For example you can be aware that you're dreaming but just go along with it. What we all want is to be standing-their-in-complete-awe lucid, and then flying is so vivid you could swear it's real. Apparantely it is as easy as confidently shouting, "Increase clarity/lucidity now" but I haven't tried it yet.

I flew in lucid dreams for years before my first hang gliding experience.

It's just as cool in real life as you imagine in dreams. If you love flying in dreams, go hang gliding. It's amazing.

The only difference that struck me, was how quiet it is. You can hear noises & voices from insanely far away, but theres a weird lack of ambient noise.

I remember the first lucid I ever had...I was sooo excited that I was lucid and it was a very vivid one. I changed my scenery to the top of a skyscraper at night and proceeded to fly right off the edge...it was so amazing I will never forget that dream.

I first flew in normal dream and it felt so great. When I got my first lucid dream, I immediately wanted to fly again and did it. It feels so real, just too amazing!!!

I find dream flying to be extremely realistic, often perplexing me to how the body can know how it feels to fly. One of my greatest lucid dream experiences occurred during a mid-day nap after work, I fell asleep on my couch and I awoke inside my dream; I proceeded to fly straight from the couch position out the door and it was truly glorious.

I have flown on other occasions and in one instance I flew straight out of the way of an oncoming vehicle, almost instinctively. Once I was airborne I began laughing out of shear joy of how great it was to have done that without wanting to.
