I agree with Taiji, do exactly that ... and stay in bed for anout 5 minutes just thinking about what you were dreaming about. Dont try too hard ... just let your mind drift into thoughts of what you were dreaming about. Getting frustrated will only make things worse.

Also, keeping a dream journal is the best way to improve you recall. However, it will not be as effective if you dont take it seriously. I think when you take the trouble to write down your dreams immediately after you remember them, you subconsiously make your mind want to remember your dreams. So its important to take dream recall seriously or your mind will tend to easily drift off to other thoughts after you wake up.

      Try this-

Set alarms to go off every 90 minutes or so during the night. Keep the journal by your bed. Every time you wake up, force yourself to scribble down anything you can remember, even if it's just a few words. By the end of the night, you could have as many as 5 dreams or so, depending on how long you sleep. After a while of doing this a few nights a week, you should see an increase in recall.
(I suggest 90 minutes because this is generally how long you have between each REM cycle. It's between 60 and 90 usually, but at 90-minute intervals you have a good chance of waking up in the middle of a dream every time.)

Those times you do recall.. Look at how you woke up? What position..

      Did you move?

      Was you woken by noise?

Were you alone? Did you wake up by yourself, as opposed to being waken by others? Did you have somewhere to be later that day?

I ask all these questions, cause I learnd dreamrecall better than I ever could imagine possible, when I started looking in to them. For me a pattern was so obvious.. ..after years of expereince, and focus/intent!

I know who I am, as I become...
