Smile does lucid dreaming affect peoples waking lives?

      Hi guys,

i'm new to all this and am fascinated by the whole thing - i've been reading this site for hours lol

basically, not that its good but i spent a lot of my life having WILDs day and night due to glue intoxication; i had no idea at the time but now i know what was going on!
i don't do drugs now, and i've grown into a respectable, employed person with my own place so no ill effects - quite the opposite - i now have the most amazing relationship with my sub concious as we've spent years getting to know each other - albeit in a pretty nonconventional manner lol.

now i realize what was happening, its made me realise i (as in my concious)have ultimate control over my mind, which is something only recently i can say - up till now i'd think one thing and believe another - eg paranioa - i know i'm a nice person but believed i wasn't.
now i can choose what i believe and feel to a certain extend - obviuosly i can't jus suddenly beleve a different religion through choice or anything major but i can over ride silly feelings that aren't real.
this has improved my confidence undescribably and i'm interested if anyone else has found that lucid dreaming affects how they are when they are awake.

any comments will be welcomed with interest.....

yes LDing affects my waking life, but only in positive ways (unless you count sleeping in until 1pm to have more dreams a negative, which it could be but fuck it). I feel like I'm getting more out of life because instead of sleeping all night and not remembering anything about it I'm using that time to do something really exciting and unique. I feel satisfied that I completed the goal of learning how to LD, and I'm looking forward to completing my goal of getting more control over my LDs. I like spending boring moments in the day reminiscing about the crazy LDs I had the night before.

I'm always happy after having a nice long lucid dream.

      Yes

it has made me become a nihilist in my waking life

so much so that my only goal in my waking life is to get to sleep, I am seeing a psychiatrist tomorrow

I have no interest in the opposite sex, or same sex for that matter. I do not pursue them. I don't use drugs, I go out every weekend to be a designated driver for my friends. I mingle and what not.

If it has done one good thing its that I never tell a lie anymore.

Well, it also did something good... I asked many dream characters if they could tell me to live my life by one thing what would it be. Their answer? Treat others the way you want to be treated. That is the main rule I live my life by.

Personally I am 100% content with my life and couldn't be happier though but society would think I'm crazy. It also gave me the belief that reality is entirely subjective and no one can prove their existence... and yes, I am seeking psychiatric help as I've already mentioned. On the personal level I know there is nothing wrong with me, which is why I must seek psychiatric help so society thinks I'm normal. Because if you ask me the only role of psychiatry is to make people appear 'normal' to what society has deemed as normal.

See what it's done to me? It has given me CRAZY ideas.

I have yet to actually have a lucid, but I know the efforts and reading up on controlling your lucid experiences has given me more control over things in real life.

It has added a fresh perspective on the whole subjectiveness of reality. If dreams are real for as long as they last, the same could be said for life. And after a good LD, I always find myself feeling a little more refreshed and in a generally better mood.

Mentally, I think it's a wonderful thing. I've become more outgoing, less shy, and I too feel pretty good after a lucid.

Sometimes the world seems more surreal in the hours after a lucid, as if my consciousness has been raised some.
How do you know you are not dreaming right now?

      well cheers everyone

it seems to be generally a good thing like i thought - it does indeed make cloudiness between what is real and what is just percieved - everything we see and hear goes through our brain first and we get what it selects.

after totally overdoing it and spending far too much time (most of school!) in this dream like state i finally learnt the difference whats real and whats not but at the end of the day its all up to our brains!

the guy seeing the psycologist - i'd be interested to know what is said, although i think if you mean that you are totally happy then its society that has the problem - not you good life rule too - thats been mine for ages and it really really works

The main general effect for me is just the boost I get if I had an LD in the morning--I wake up with a rush that carries into the day. I suppose there's also a feedback effect between waking and dreaming lucidity--the way you have to stay relaxed yet alert to keep a LD going.
If you have a sense of caring for others, you will manifest a kind of inner strength in spite of your own difficulties and problems. With this strength, your own problems will seem less significant and bothersome to you. By going beyond your own problems and taking care of others, you gain inner strength, self-confidence, courage, and a greater sense of calm.Dalai Lama
