      Dream-to-dream continuity

At different times, and especially three years ago when I was really working on exploring and influencing my dreams, I've noticed a kind of continuity develops. I'll revisit the same places in different dreams, and even if I'm not lucid, I'll remember things that have happened there in past dreams, and sometimes my dreams will reference each other.

Does anyone know what I'm talking about? Have you experienced this? I feel like I could have gone much farther with it, and I'm wondering if anyone has. Does anyone out there have one consistent dream world that they revisit often, or always when you dream?
If you have a sense of caring for others, you will manifest a kind of inner strength in spite of your own difficulties and problems. With this strength, your own problems will seem less significant and bothersome to you. By going beyond your own problems and taking care of others, you gain inner strength, self-confidence, courage, and a greater sense of calm.Dalai Lama

I have a lot of dreams where I remember things that have happened in other dreams, sort of like when you remember things in real life, or de ja vu. I'm like "hey, ive been here before." or something like that. But when I am dreaming I consider these memories to be real ones, and I don't realize I'm actually dreaming. I have several dreams that seem to go together...

The only time I get that kind of feeling of continuity is when I have false awakenings... This sounds like something that you could definately use to easily switch your conciousness and become lucid...if you remember other dreams, you should remember to do a RC, so good luck, and remember to practice your RC's!!!

I was just about to post this exact same thread, so instead of posting a new thread I'll just bump this one.

Yeah, I get dream to dream continuity. For example, last night I had a dream where I went into a room and I instantly realised my computer was missing. And, this room wasn't a place where I've got a computer in real life. Then I KNEW that someone had sold this computer, and I knew who'd sold it. So I walked up to this person who was sat on the floor and I asked him where my computer was and he said he'd sold it.

It's strange how you've, or at least I've, got dream memories stored away that only become obvious when I'm dreaming.

I experience a great level of continuity in my dreams. I often see the same people (who I almost never see in waking life) nearly every time I dream. I go to many of the same places (some from waking life, but many are not). I often remember events from past dreams while dreaming. I also often have at least one "chained" dream per night. By that I mean a dream where I wake up (not a FA) then later go back to sleep and return to that same dream. Usually I continue the plot. Part of the reason I have so many "chained" dreams is because I use DEILD and MILD a lot.

Yeah, in three occurences. First set, I'm in another ralm, and alll sorts of freaky stuff happens. Second set mmay be a subset of the first, but I'm a character in a miniseries where each episode is one dream. Third set I further explore this building I was in in a dream a couple years back, one room per dream (and one dream per room).

wow....that happens to me all of the time..(if I got this right) I will have dreams in the same place..making it feel like the dreams connect. When I was very young(around 3,4, or 5) i used to have the same dreams every night(I wanted to have them also and i am POSITIVE they were all lucid) except....every time I had one it was in my house but...somehow every dream was different in a way. it always ended up with me in my front yard and there is a light(a small circle about the size of a basketball) and when i got near it..BAM im awake. happened every night but different things happened inside the house but it always led to the light.....and I have also had dreams unlike that but I was in the same place.......is this kinda what you are talking about.....?

All the time. A lot of times my recalled dreams will be bookmarked by a continuous dream, even though the intermediary stuff is totally different. And then there will be the contiguous dream continuity between REM cycles. And day to day, if not year to year, continuity.

It's funny, because I'll realize it in the dream, and think, "hey, I saw that in that other dream" and continue on my non-lucid way, as if dreams just materialized in reality all the time.

What would be really nice is dream character continuity. I have yet to see that, save friends, obviously. Maybe when I have similar dreamscapes the characters are the same, but I don't have any documented instances of this happening. Most of my DCs are less than memorable anyway.

There's a place that I see a lot in my dreams, and it's a wall with ivy and other plants growing up and on it. Although the only time I see it within my dreams is if I'm getting chased. I often run across it to esacape whoever is chasing me.

But I do remember when I had dreams that referred to other dreams that I've had, either through speech or an object. It's strange. xD

That sounds sort of like your 'defense wall' or barrier for lack of a better name. That's kinda nifty! Something to keep in mind.
