      The Extent Of Ability

I had my first real, textbook LD in about 5 months last night (probably due to the fact that I could sleep as long as I wanted). Oddly enough, it was the most control I was ever able to have, and it was also the longest. In other words, it was the best I have ever had. I flew at will, high about a crappy looking suburb, for the first time ever, plus much more. When I woke up, I reflected upon a simple question that I have always wanted to know. Just how good can you get at lucid dreaming?

I would like some straight-up commentary from true, battle-hardened experts. Tell me about your single best LD ever, because right now I feel like I'm the shit for what I did last night. I need to be humbled, and perhaps to give me some motivation and something to look forward to.

O yea, don't just make up a kickass LD to sound cool. I really need a true experiences.

This probably isn't a sort of answer that you're looking for, but i thought i would try

I think one of my most favorite lucid dream experiences is probably not one that people would imagine to be very cool...

I was walking around outside and i saw a friend drive by. I tried to chase the car waving around and yelling (something i would do) but as i tried to run faster i felt myself slowing down and falling down to the ground. I realized this was a trait of dreaming and then realized i was dreaming. This experience was different somehow though; only one other time in a lucid dream (which was similar) had i been blown away like that before. The realness of everything and the degree of consciousness I felt was incredible. For the remainder of the dream (which seemed like a long time) I picked a leaf off a tree and sat down to look at it.

From that experience and the other one i had which was pretty similar (I ate sand to see how real it tasted) are the two most amazing experiences i've had, both have which completely changed my outlook on life.

Though my knowledge of it is pretty limited, Tibetan Buddhists use a sort of dream yoga as a supplement for personal experience and enlightenment. I'll never be able to describe how those dreams felt; the best way i can is to say that after having them, my outlook on reality and my own life has been "enlightened" to a certain degree
Paprika: Don't you think dreams and the Internet are similar? They are both areas where the repressed conscious mind vents.

John Lennon: I believe in everything until it's disproved. So I believe in fairies, the myths, dragons. It all exists, even if it's in your mind. Who's to say that dreams and nightmares aren't as real as the here and now? Reality leaves a lot to the imagination.

Hey dude, thats good stuff. Your answer contributes to my questions of level of consciousness in LDs. Unlike most of my LDs, yours seem to be in good control. I often find myself getting lost in the dream, floating in and out of lucidity. Yours seem to be as conscious as real life.

What about ability in the dream, ie. flying and summoning objects and people etc. C'mon pros, whats the coolest thing you've ever done?

Conjured up an entire huge palace. Folly formed, detailed, with people and land. Then proceeded to control the mind of absoloutley every DC I saw. oh, and then I played around with telekinesis and magic, throwing fireballs, levitating, etc. But the summouning was the best part.

That was an LD I had when I was young. Just so you know, I have NEVER had this level of control since.

I have two equal best ever LDs. The first is my first ever flying dream. I could feel the air around me, I could feel my hair being blown back, and it was amazing. This was a few months ago.

My latest best LD was a couple of days ago. I created a ballroom from the 19th century (love period dramas), and a girl came over to me and took my hand and asked me to dance. As we went onto the dancefloor she floated into the air. I told her I couldn't fly, and she laughed and told me not to be so silly, and to just float into the air. I told her I couldn't. and she told me to feel my feet on the ground, then to use it to float. I did, and we literally danced in the air. It was fantastic!

Best LD was my one and only successful WILD... not only did I explore a beautiful but surreal beach, I flew for the first time and it was absolutely great. After the first experience though, all flying has done is make it more convenient for me in LDs when I feel my limbs are slow and clumsy. But it still feels good to have that control.

But for ability, last night, I tested my level of control with the first DILD I had in months... I levelled and annihillated several square miles of land, in which a town was situated in... all through the power of will and with me gesturing my hands around like a magician/wizard. Quite a spectacular sight from the vantage point I had (I was standing in a forest clearing on a hill which overlooked the landscape I wrecked). I caused the ground to upheave and collapse, with huge chunks of rock and soil colliding with each other as they plummetted into huge chasms that tore through the ruined land.

Other notable things I have done is experiment with doors in dreams... I have literally changed rooms around, to travelling to different areas, all by walking through doors. That is quite cool to do.

Other things I would like to/still have to do:
      • time control - slowing or speeding up of time
      • walking through walls
      • meeting subconscious/dream guide
      • etc...

Although it was an early experience, it stands out as the most pleasurable. To sum it up in one run-on sentence, I stabilized with all five senses for the first time, saw beautiful autumn forest scenes, joined an enormous outdoor patry at which I impressed all the dream characters with 'magic' tricks, flew around successfully (not for the first time, but the first time since intentionally lucid dreaming), and at the end, I saw what would come to be my first dream guide/pet/creature.
