      getting out of nightmares

i found that instead of trying to overcome the monster or try to ignore it it's easier to just decide that this part of the dream is in a room and if i just decide that i want to step out of this room then i'm instantly taken out of the nightmare and ussually end up on a beach or something.

Usually when I have nightmares I end up just waking myself up. Not really on purpose, more instinctually. I used to have a lot of dreams when I was a kid where I made friends with the monster in question. There was usually quite a bit of getting chased and scared beforehand though.
