WILD: It always starts wherever I fell asleep

If I have a day nap or WBTB and WILD, it will always, without fail, begin with me getting out of my bed in whatever room I fell asleep in. My dreamscape inside and outside will replicate as best it can what I already know.

Is this normal? Reading a lot on here makes me think people have their LDs in various strange evironments quite easily. The environment in my WILDs always start and end with real environments perfectly duplicated from memory, however far away I was able to get from my house before waking up.

If I ever do come across a place I've never physically been in real life (walked through a neighborhood wall the other day), then it's kind of a dull and barren greyness.

Is it normal to WILD straight into a replica of the real environment you're in?

Any tips on changing scenery? I've had about 3 WBTB WILD sessions in the past two weeks and have gotten to know my neighborhood a bit too well I've tried spinning and telling myself to teleport elsewhere but nothing ever came of it.

I never thought about it lots of the WILDs I've experienced have started in the room I was actually in, probably a third of them.
As far as changing scenery, how is your overall dream control? If it's good, try something like straight up teleporting to a new place that you have in mind. If it is less so, try imagining that a new location lies beyond a door, and opening it. Walking through mirrors might work too.
Before you go to sleep, try picturing a place you want to go, maybe even look at a picture beforehand so you can really visualize it.
Just out of curiosity, how often do you WILD? Are there lots of DC's around when you dream?

I've only had one LD so far (out of many) that actually started in the room I was in. And that was just a result of a false awakening. I have however had LDs originate in places I'm familiar with but haven't been to in years such as my grandmother's house, my childhood home and my old highschool. Usually though I just start wherever I was wanting to go.

If I do need to change scenery, I usually summon a portal and walk through.

Often my WILDS begin with the room that I'm lying in and then I'll simply walk outside and fly til I see something interesting.

My current work schedule allows for about two WBTB+WILD a week.

I've been naturally WBTB+WILDing off and one since I was little but never knew what it was until recently (see the post count? ) so my control isn't honed very well as I don't know the ins and outs of techniques.

As far as DCs, they are usually rare unless I want them to appear, in which case they will always show up. Due to what I've recently read on this site, I've been trying to experiment with them more. In my last LD I asked one of them for directions to my DG.

Why? You think they can help me change scenery? Should I ask them where to go and how to get there?

P.S. I opened my neighbor's door the other day (I've never been in the apartment) and it seemed very different, but unremarkable, and I quickly lost lucidity and it went into a normal dream.

Why not.. it would be interesting to see what they'd tell you!

When you're looking for an answer to something with respect to lucid dreaming.. I say try any and everything til you find what works. If something doesn't work one time.. there's always the next lucid to try something else.

the 5 lucid dreams i've had all of which were from WBTB have began with me doing a reality check in my bedroom. the first reality check i did was with my alarm clock, the time was 3:14 which i knew was way of the mark so i looked away and looked again and it had changed to N:07, just thought i'd share that!

BTW did you take the username AfterHours from the Bluetones song?

Well, i just woke up from a big WBTB morning of about 3 WILDs, and then I woke up I got dressed and left my apartment. Fumbling for the keys to my bike I just thought I'd screw around and do a reality check and look away and back again, just for fun. Sure enough, I was STILL stuck in my neighborhood non-reality.

Anyways after all of this I was only minimally able to change the scenery to something more interesting, mostly by walking through walls in my neighborhood that led to places I could never have possibly been to before (other peoples' houses).

Anyways after years of hiatus (last regular spout of LD practice was in college, and I'm 24 now), my new job schedule's given me an opportunity to do WBTB every weekday, and now that I'm back into it, it's become apparent to me that I need to work on the fundamentals and get them down solid again.

I have to work on my self-discipline more as well, because despite remembering what you all told me, I made the conscious decision to just enjoy myself and not do it for fear of it not working. Also because my DCs are often beautiful women, numerous times instead of asking any of them for advice on finding my DG or changing scenery, I made the conscious decision that I'd rather just be having sex with them

Newbie101: After Hours is a song by the Velvet Underground (NOT Velvet Revolver...which people mistake a lot ). I'm not sure if Bluetones covered them, or just has their own song by the same title. The lyrics start with, "If you close the door, the night could last forever."
