      I have lost recall!

guys i need your help. I have been working at Lucid Dreaming for nearly a year now, and I hav not had a lucid dream worth mentioning. On top of that, I am not recalling dreams anymore! Before, I could wake up during the night and rusually record at least a dream or two. Now I sleep strait through the night and I don't remember anything in the morninng. To move on in LDing I need to master recall--so HELP!

I find eating bananas helpful (as in my new post) and I remmeber SO MANY dreams when I eat them! Also dark chocolate helps sometimes. Dream recall is really really weird for me. I usually remember them as I'm eating or directly after showering. So just keep at it and try as hard as you can. Your mind is weird sometimes, remmember.

      Nice avatar Inbetweendreams.

      Just go back to basics.

Don't move upon waking and focus all your intent on remembering something about your dreams. Don't think about the following day.

Try not to use an alarm clock, but if you must, make it a white noise alarm (you can find a radio frequency with no station on it). Another good idea for an alarm is one that is something short that you don't have to turn off. The movement of turning it off isn't good for recall.

I also remember a lot of dreams in the shower like Inbetweendreams has said.

Very importantly, anytime you get a dream, record it into your dream journal. Whether it's a full dream, an image, an emotion, etc. If you get anything, record it and try to build upon that to get more of the dream, but something is better than nothing.

I remember tons of dreams from hearing a certain word or phrase. Just yesterday my little brother who is still at the "I don't like girls" age said that he doesn't like girls. All of a sudden, I remembered a huge dream that started with me sitting in my living room and my other brother who is past that age coming in and announcing that he is gay. So the little random things that people say can trigger dream recall. Most of the time I won't even pay attention, but my subconscious will hear it and trigger the memory.

Somebody posted a very good idea of making a big big list of random words and things that happen in a lot of dreams, then reviewing over them, and he claimed that it helped a lot with his recall.

Inbetweendreams also sais that bananas help her. This is most likely because bananas have B6 in them. This vitamin is essential for brain functions, and results in very vivid dreams. B6 can help you both become lucid and have better recall. Bananas aren't very high though, so you could buy some vitamins at a local pharmacy or corner store. I got a jar of B6 pills from CVS for around $8 if I remember correctly.

Overall, don't give up. Everybody has dry spells. Many things in the environment and in life can cause recall to go on the fritz. It will pass.

Drink lots of water before bed. You will wake up at night.

Pop a multi vitamin before that glass of water too. I think the brain appreciates the assortment of vitamins before bed.

Along with the great advice that's already been given, what can also affect dream recall is simply getting more sleep/sleeping longer. I notice that on the days when I can sleep over 8+ hours my recall greatly improves.

Thanks, guys and gals, for your suggestions. Maybe I'm losing the recall because I'm depressed by lack of LD's... but that doesn't mean I'm giving up! The banana thanks you too.

I can fully understand you. These problems can cause a big motivation fall. May I have one question?

Do you read your dream journal often. Do you find what you wrote interesting. When I read my journal, it often makes me happy and prepared for remembering more. When i dont remember dreams, its becouse i dont feel them worth to remember. Sometimes they are so stupid and they lack any interesting details.

One more important aspect could be your day life. Often when I have boring day full of repetitive tasks and computer, i dont have meaningfull dreams. I feel lost and exhausted in my dreams. They are not interesting. Try to spice your waking life a little. Maybe it will help.

I believe, your recall will improve soon. Do you believe?

I experience dry spells occasionally too. Diet, the amount of sleep, and your general state of mind can all have an effect on it.

I find that the more mundane dreams are harder to recall.

Not all of your sleep time is in REM, only about 2 hours or so, if that.

I've noticed that when I wake up after deep REM dreaming, that I wake up in a sweat. I use this as an indicator. I've talked to others who say the same thing. When that happens, I make an extra effort to think back to where I just was, (feelings, images, etc.), or just try to clear my mind and just let it seep in.

Wow.. that's interesting about waking up in a sweat. I do that occasionally too but never attibuted it to deep REM dreaming. I'll have to pay more attention the next time it happens!

Clairity, I think the content also has something to do with the sweating as well as the depth and intensity of it. Sometimes it's just a light sweat in the back of my neck or in my legs. Other times my whole body is drenched.

It's the heaviest in dreams that involve being in some kind of predicament.
