I hate getting caught up in that
what if this is not a dream!
The vividness of some dream scenery can be so beautiful at times, and could as you said be so "detailed and real."

As for your peripheral vision. Try to take short glances at things in your dream. Try not to get stuck staring too long at one object.
Look at something then shift your attention periodically to different things.
      Might help?

Well if i'm in doubt i'll doe a quick nose reality check, but usually once i click onto the fact that its a dream, it stays that way.

Attempting to fly off a cliff is NOT a recommended reality check.

Try doing something completely ridiculous, like punching your hand through the wall, or jumping 100 feet into the air. It's safer than jumping off of a building at first.

Lol jumping a couple hundred feet in the air and the gliding back down is one of my favorites, i love the feeling in my legs when i engage my muscles to push me that high up. My legs tense up and then just explode, its so awesome.

Something like that happened to me last week. I was in a LD and everything seemed so real, I could really feel the cold air on my balcony... I wanted to fly, but I wanted to make sure it's a dream, jumping from the 11th floor is ... kind of high

Anyway... I read the title from some old newspapers in my living floor, looked away... and it didn't change when I looked back... I was pretty sure it was reality and not a dream.

I decided to go back to sleep and on my way back to the room, I checked the VCR clock, it was only 1:65.... wait.... 1:65 ?... Let me have another look... 23:12 ?... It was 1:65 a second ago ...

The funny thing is, I stil wasn't 100% sure because everything was as real as reality so I tried to "levitate" in my living room before flying off....and it worked... yay ^^

Believe you can or believe you can't... either way, you're right.

Something exactly like this happened to me last night!

I got up in the middle of the night for no reason, and i was wondering about in my room, unaware i was dreaming.

Normally when i even so much as question reality its enough to make me lucid. However this time i thought.."Wait..why am i wondering around my room at night..."

      "this must be a dream...hm...

"it doesnt feel like a dream..."

And then for the first time i actually had to use reality checks to confirm i was dreaming.
I tried putting my finger through my palm but it didnt work.

"Aha! this isnt a dream, im going back to bed..."
"Wait..lets think about this...ill do one more RC".

Then i tried the nose RC, and when i realised that i could breath through i closed nose, the shock almost killed me. My adrenaline (sp?) went sky high and i had to really clam down, it was crazy. I normally dont get really exited in lucids but the shock was nuts!.

Anyway, it didnt matter cause the dream ended soon after, the reason was simple. After confirming i was dreaming, i looked up and i wasnt in my room anymore. I was at a beach/pool area, with lots of women in bikini's around. Ofcourse only one thing was on my mind and yea...
