Lucid dreams are still just dreams. While you are having them, they seem completely real, as real as waking life. However, after you wake up, they are recalled as typical dreams are recalled - if you don't commit them to paper, you are likely to forget them. Remembering what you did in your lucid dream is not the same as remembering what you had for dinner last night - this seems to a common misconception among beginners. While lucid dreams are slightly more memorable due simply to their novelty and the excitement they arouse, ultimately they are as fragile as any dream memory.
In short, what you experienced was normal, and you better get used to it. The plus side is that once you have trained your dream recall, this wont be as much of an issue, as even regular dreams will be easily and clearly recalled upon waking (for an hour or two, anyway).
