Do some people think LDing is a bad thing?

so maybe i missunderstood some posts but it sounds liek some people are saying parents or other people think LDing isnt natural or right. I was just wondering if this is the opinion of some people.

one person's dad forbade him from speaking about lucid dreaming. he wasn't too happy about that.

i personally think that people should be more open minded to lucid dreaming and not look down upon it

do u have any idea why him and other people would think this, i just dont get what seems to be so bad, do they think it would be to much freedom for a kid to handle, and he could see anything he wanted to see?

a lot of people think its new-agey. some think its like taking an interest into witchcraft and such crap like that.
but the majority just think that it sounds like bullshit so they fear what they dont know. i know my dad is a total skeptic about everything. cant have any philosophical arguments or anything with him,cuz he wont have none of it.
i can picture it here right now 'hey, lewis what you on here?'
      ' oh just lucid dreaming'
      'what the hells that?'
'well its like being aware in your dreams,so you can do anything'
dad stares for a moment at me like in crazed
'what the hell you on that kind of crap for? you know its all bullshit lewis'
      'yes,dad'

thats why i didnt tell my dad about lucid dreaming, but my mums ok with it,shes got an nice, open mind.

When people are under the impression that lucid dreaming is 'bullshit', in what context are they reffering to? It's just your imagination? It's stupid? It isn't real? Whenever I ask somebody why they have such a negative stance towards it, they can't really give a straight answer.

Well, they think lucid dreaming is occult. They think it is "witchcraft" or "magic" and religious people might believe it's "dark arts". But, I would never get into a debate with people who think lucid dreaming is occult if it is occult or not because I think, good, if they think its bad, then they shouldn't do it, i'm not gonna try to change their minds. I'll just say, "stubbornness doesn't get you anywhere".

Yeah, like at first Icedawg put a magician on the dreamviews page (I don't know if its still their) and people thought that that was the dark arts so they didn't want to come to the site because they thought it was blasphemy, morons.

I think you guys have nailed it. I learned abot lucid dreaming from a Carlos Castaneda book, which definately has new age and witchcraft connotations.

Would I forbid my kids from reading stuff like that? No, but I would sit down and discuss it with them just to know that they understand it and keep it in a proper context.

The same holds for lucid dreaming. I wonder how many of those that are having trouble have ever taken the time to sit down and have an honest and open conversation about it. I also wonder how many parents took the time to research the topic before dismissing it as some kind of New-age voodoo.

wow that was an interesting conversation. cuz i had no idea some people thought that, i just got that feeling with you guys talking about other people. my whole family is christian . dont go to church but christian and yea like one said its not against this religion. im still wondering why some this its whitchcraft, thats the weirdest thing to me, its like any sort of meditation and stuff, its taking control of your dreams, your not brainwashing yourself.

Unfortunately, they do not teach things like that in Sunday School. Meditation, dreaming, and altered states of conciousness are accepted and an expected part of other beliefs like Buddhism and Shamanism.

Also, when talking about visions and dreams and such, many Christian churches dismiss them as belonging to the age of the apostles. I've sat in services and heard sermons to that effect. BUT, I've also sat in on many Full Gospel or Pentacostal services and heard just the opposite.

You know the mindset. If dreaming is accepted by the buddhists then it must be an evil thing and not proper for a young Christian to become involved with.

I know the mindset. I didn't say I agreed with it. My kids are free to explore anything they want (except drugs) as long as they keep an open mind.

I don't understand why people can't listen to what somebody has to say before they condemn what that person thinks, does or believes. My dad told me that LD'ing was crap and a waste of time, but the best time of my day is when I go to sleep. Luckily for me he's not big into computers, so he doesn't really know or care what I do online.

if people would just take the time to realize what lucid dreaming actually is then they wouldnt have those opinions, but for some people ignorance can be bliss
