      Natural Lucidity

I am curious, as to how many people here are 'naturals' at lucid dreaming and why.

There's a few thoughts I've had about natural lucidity, and possible causes for it.

By natural lucidity, I mean that the person has fairly frequent lucid dreams, without using direct techniques.

If you are a natural, or have any thoughts on why natural lucidity occurs, I'd appreciate any response.

I won't say what my thoughts are yet, as to not influence any opinions in this research.

Even if you aren't a natural lucid dreamer, I'd still appreciate any ideas on why you think you have ever become lucid. Specific, or theoretical.
You merely have to change your point of view slightly, and then that glass will sparkle when it reflects the light.

I started to have lucid dreams at a young age. I belive this happened because I had frequent nightmares. Eventually I'd just realize in the middle of a nightmare that I'd done this last night (or earlier that night) and become lucid. Then I'd either wake up, fight the nightmare, or make it change to something not scary.

I also had the cool experience of learning to fly in a series of lucid dreams in 1st grade. Those were really the first non nightmare lucid dreams I had.

it just randomly hits me that im dreaming.
if i get one randomly, i usually have multiple ones that night or one the next day.
i think the dream feeling stays with me so its easier for me to know when im dreaming and when im not.

I don't have a theory. I don't know anything about it (that's been proven scientifically, I mean), and I'm not one, so I have to listen to what naturals say about it themselves.

http://www.dreamviews.com/community/...ad.php?t=56986 you may find that interesting. I'm sure there are many similar threads all over the site!

I'm a natural. I have been LDing since before I even knew what it was. I recognized that I was dreaming through dream signs or when the DC's were saying or doing everything that I was thinking. That happened a lot when I was having nightmares as a child. I would hope that the monster wasn't going to walk towards me and then he would start walking towards me. I would be afraid that he would grow claws and then all of the sudden he would start to grow claws. My nightmare DC's always seem to do exactly what i am dreading. I still haven't had a WILD yet. People say that they are jealous of naturals. Well, I am jealous of people that can WILD. lol

I am a natural LDer. And, as it turns out, I am a natural WILDer. I didn't realize that not everyone else experienced this until I was about 14. After which I intentionally became more aware of my dreaming and attempted to control them more. I also put in a good effort to recalling my dreams.
Without trying, I can easily recall 1-2 dreams I had the night prior, most of which are LDs. I can WILD easily by waking up on my own accord (which I can choose to do in an LD dream), thinking about my dream, and then going back to sleep. Often I will go back into my previous dream and do things a little differently for more fun after consciously thinking about them for a few minutes. On weekends, when I can sleep in, I can achieve 4-5 WILDs and recall them in detail. Dreaming is fun.

I have been lucid dreaming since a very young age, and thought everyone else did, too, until I was about 10 yrs old (which was also around the time that I learned there was a specific term for it.)

When I was little I would often have those nightmares where you lose the ability to scream or run, and I would just realize I was dreaming. Then I would start noticing un-realistic things more and more, until I could tell I was dreaming even if the dream was realistic.

I have frequent lucid dreams without using induction techniques, but after I learned that not everyone has lucids, I have been interested in learning about the techniques.
Also, I have never had a WILD. Planning on trying it in a few hours, though.

I don't use techniques or have any dream signs or dream guides. It just
happens. I sometimes go into SP very quickly when I go to bed. When
that happens I sometimes am aware of it. If the light bulb of awareness
comes on in my head during these episodes, then I can very quickly go
lucid. Whenever I bring this up in here sometimes ppl suggest I am sleep
deprived, but I'm not. There has to be another reason for why I can go
into REM sleep quickly sometimes. I am never already dreaming and always
begin the LD right from my bedroom. So because I was just awake and then
went straight to a LD, I call it a WILD. But it is not initiated by technique.
The other night I had my first DILD. And I'm hoping to have more of
those now. I didn't even know before I came here that there was a
wealth of different ways to purposely make yourself LD, or that I could
become lucid in a dream that I recognize to be a dream. I'm not interested
in any techniques other then that though. I've always had LDs and I
always will. I like them to happen unexpectedly.

Used to have this reoccurring nightmare as a small child, and I'd become lucid most of the time before the nightmare was triggered (usually was a false awakening). Half the time I panicked, other times I changed the scene.

Although it isn't often anymore, I do still get a few natural LDs every now and then. Sometimes I can't even recall afterwards how I became lucid.

In my one and only DILD the other night, I couldn't say how I became
lucid either. I just thought of it and then....was.
The way I normally become lucid though, I know exactly what I do,
and when I can do it.

I think I'm fairly natural at it, though it started for me in my teenage years. It seemed to correlate with the onset of narcolepsy, a sleep disorder that I have. I believe that my ability to lucid dream mostly is because of that. I often go into rem sleep right away when I fall asleep, instead of going through the other sleeps first. This makes it easier to dream whatever I'm thinking about before falling asleep. Also, my dreams are more vivid and I seem to recall them better than the average person, so I know my dream signs pretty well. I seem to relize that I'm dreaming more often than not at this point.

i am natural although i cant do it every night i do use some techniques to induce them but rarely just waking myself up then going to sleep again is enough to trigger one for me

ive been naturaly lucid for about as long as i can remember but as soon as i found out other people could do it and there were tricks and other cool stuff to do in dreams i havent even thought of, my dreams have become more unstable and my control more powerfull in just months i can walk through walls, sumon people, turn the entire world into custard, mind control people, teleport the list is endless

so even natural lucid dreamers need homing to become better

yes we start a metre ahead of you but we do run the other 99metres with you

I am a natural LDer, ever since I was little. I have several LD's a week. Also a natual WILDer, had just a handfull when I was younger, but it has stepped up in the past year or so. I can expect at least one a week, and actually have a hard time avoiding them. Husband works 2nd shift - I sleep for 4 hours or so, hear him come in, get up, say hello, and then go back to bed. Have come to realize I am creating the prime environment for WBTB, and am usually guaranteed a WILD if when I return to bed I lay on my back. But I can't handle that every night!

I have been a natural for a long time, though more often I'll have lucids in nightmares. Although, I didn't have good dream control, so it'd be more "Hey, I'm dreaming. I'd better wake myself up before something bad happens to me."
I thought it was completely normal, until I was 12, when I learned there was a specific term for it. Now I am getting better dream control, and attempting to have a WILD.

I don't think I'm quite a natural in the way you or others describe. I don't use any techniques to have a lucid dream, but I am also not one of those who have had lucid dreams as long as they can remember. I've only ever had about 6 lucid dreams. They tend to happen in phases of my life where I'm thinking a lot about sleep and dreaming, but without me actively trying to have a lucid dream. I read a book about dreams in high school and that caused me to have some lucid dreams, but then I stopped thinking about it and they stopped happening. Then recently I read a book on consciousness and it spoke about lucid dreaming and the dreams started again.

It's usually just like a switch flips in my head and suddenly I realize I'm asleep. My dream gets much less vivid at this point, as someone else mentioned. I can sometimes feel my body lying in bed, and my dream is often quite grey, and sounds aren't very clear either. I am going to have to practice a lot and learn to make my dreams more vivid and last longer.

So yeah, I don't think I'm a natural in the way you describe (in that my LDs aren't frequent) but my insight into why I LD is that the more I put dreaming in my conscious mind, the more my conscious mind is able to recognize a dream when it happens.

My experiences where almost exactly the same as this; funnily when i was younger i never attained a "knack" for flying, so i always had to do a run up and jump and sometimes it would work, whereas sometimes it wouldn't!
I tend to just realise when something wierd is happening or something is a recurring dream... I'd say I have a lucid about once every 2 weeks or so without trying; but when I first came here (after being a lurker for a bit) I was having about 3 lucid dreams per (most) night(s) but those have since died down; perhaps because I'm no longer trying.

Edit: It has to be said I rarely have any control over actual dream content (scenery); I mainly just control my own actions.

Yeah, I've been doing it alot longer than I knew what it was too. It got intense during martial arts training. Alot of fighting. Got ran through with a sword once and had to learn a way to wake up before the pain set in. About 12 my narcolepsey kicked it into high gear. 36 now and still learning new abilities, and how to corrupt the interior.
