Ideas for web based lucid dream tools

I am just trying to get back in to lucid dreaming after over a year off. Being a web developer a decided to write some tools to help me and other people and to keep my own attention on lucid dreaming too.

The first idea is to have an online dream journal that sits on your homepage and can be easily added to throughout the day as you recall bits and pieces. You would also be able to identify events, people, places etc and mark them as potential dream signs. You would then be able to list which dream signs are occurring more regularly. You can read the full list of ideas: http://www.iamluciddreaming.com/foru...topic.php?id=7

The second idea I will be working on is a lucid dream clock that sits on your homepage, periodically alerts you to do reality tests and suggests a couple of tests for you to do. You can read the ideas for that one here: http://www.iamluciddreaming.com/foru...topic.php?id=4

From my own experiences I think these will be useful, but would value your opinion before I start to ensure I am including features that people need.

      Any input would be appreciated.

Good ideas, I don't know if thy are unique, but good nonetheless.

With you first idea, I imagine that you will look for trends in dreamsigns. You could also compare the occurence of dreamsigns and waking events. Just an idea.

Would you do this in Ajax?

psychology, analysing waking events sounds like a good addition.

ninja9578, most of my experience is with Ajax related technologies so that is probably the way I will go.

I am interested in any other ideas too if anyone can think of a web based tool that would be useful.

My initial ideas are just based on my own lucid dream experience and things I feel would help me.

I would especially find the second idea useful! I'm on my computer a lot and was just wondering lately how I could implement that into reality checks.

Cool. I am hoping to have the first versions of both ready within the next 2 to 3 weeks and then get some feedback on how to improve them. I'll let you know when they are ready. I'm also quite keen to get the lucid clock idea working on mobile phones so we can keep the solution with us all the time.

Also, I was thinking that if I made the distinct sound that the lucid clock makes a downloadable mp3 you could set an alarm to use it on you mobile phone to coincide with your expected morning REM cycle. The idea being that you will pick up on it in your dream and do your reality check. Again that is nothing new, but I'm just trying to get as much out of the idea as possible.

Probably want to do things like searching and finding dream signs locally instead of in the cloud. How are you going to have it find dream signs?

You could have it go through your dream journal and find words that show up in dreams on regular frequency, and then filter out all pronouns, articles... It would probably be faster to do the filter first

I was hoping to keep that fairly simple and get the user to think about it.

First of all, you would be keying snippets of your dream in to a text box like the one I'm using now. Where you have the smilies on the right, I would have a list of previously used "potential dream signs" that had been categorised. So for example you, you may tend to dream about certain locations, people, objects. You may have certain abilities, or face certain problems, or feel certain emotions etc. The words in bold would be example categories and each category would have a pull down list providing previously used "potential signs".

So as the user types their dream they would insert existing items in to the dream text from their categories. They could also add new ones by clicking on a button and saying "Add New", or they could indicate that something should be added as a potential dream sign as they type using similar techniques to forum formatting. An example would be:

I woke in my [L:Childhood House] went down stairs and chatted to my [P:Gran]. She was holding a [O:Big wooden spoon].

So this text would result in entries to categories: locations, people and objects.

This would make it easy to analyse, and quick to type but would rely on people to identifying potential dream signs. It would also make them more aware that when they select from the list, its something that is re-occurring.

Speed of entry and ease of use are probably the most important factors otherwise it won't get used regularly.

Do you think that would work at all?

      And thanks for your input

Now that sounds like an awesome idea! I use two alarms, my clock alarm and my cell phone. I think it'd be interesting to see how I'd do with your idea.

I created the alarm sound for the lucid clock today. It's a sample of a cuckoo reversed and messed up a little. I wanted to have a fairly natural sound that you could interpret in a dream without being annoying and waking you, and something that was distinct so that you have a better chance of interpreting it as the alarm sound. Here is a link to mp3 file if you are interested.
      mp3: http://www.iamluciddreaming.com.s3.a...com/cookee.mp3

I also decided we should have a character to go with the sound who will appear on the lucid clock whenever the alarm signals you to do a reality check. That way if you hear the sound in your dream, you may see the character. I have chosen a bright pink cartoon style so that if you see it perched in a tree you know you must be dreaming.

When I get this up and running, I am going to see if I can invoke him / her in a lucid dream and use them as a dream guide for a bit of fun

Decided I may as well use it as my avatar too

I have now released the first version of my Lucid Dream clock.

You can read about it here.

And see it in action on my homepage.

Let me know what you think. Remember that it is the first version though

I have released my online dream journal. If you are interested, or if you are looking for ideas when creating your own web based dream journal, you can read the tutorial on how to use it here

I wouldn't say this replaces your notepad by the bed. I plan to make rough notes while in bed to help recall but then store more details in the dream journal and think about dream signs etc as I enter it online.

Any feedback would be appreciated. I plan to add another module to it later to allow you to analyse your dreams, e.g. answer questions such as what's been my success rate when I use the WBTB method over the last month.

It would be nice if you made these for Google, I'd like to have these on my Google homepage!

I created the "Lucid Dream Blogs" gadget as a google gadget, but no-one else has added their blog to it yet
      http://www.gmodules.com/ig/creator?u...DreamBlogs.xml

I may convert the lucid dream clock when I have time. The dream journal will be more of a problem because it requires popups, and these are not so good in Google gadgets that run in frames.

I may look in to creating "Open Social" gadgets in the future too, so they may be supported by Google.

Anyway, I will let you know
