"What if its not a dream??"

have you ever had a lucid dream, so vivid, you actually for a moment questioned if maybe you are actually nuts?

after realizing I was dreaming, I stand on the edge of the second floor of a building, over looking the first floor *like in a fancy hotel*. I was ready to jump, free fall, and then fly before I hit the ground and out of this place.

but before I did, my friends looked at me strange and asked "WHAT ARE YOU DOING?? Get back down!!"

my heart beat starts to raise, and I think, is this really a dream?? I look around me, and everything is so real. So solid feeling. Even the events that had passed prior were logical - normal. I've feet. I've arms. I'm breathing.

      "am I losing my mind?"

but I look down and think, I'm not afraid. and in real life, I'm afraid of heights. In dreams I'm not. I measure the distance in my mind between me and the floor, twenty feet. So either, I'm right, it is a dream and I fly out of this place. Or I fall, break my legs and I've lost all sense of reality. And I'm mentally insane.

I look around me again, focusing in on details. Oh God, WHAT IF IT IS REAL?? But I had to know...Am I insane? Or am I dreaming? So as my friends scream, STOP, I jump!

Free falling, wind rushing past me, then flying! I remember being so happy it was a dream I was laughing as I flew out of the building!

Has anyone else been there? A dream so lucid, you questioned your own lucidity as insanity?

Haha, yeah. I've mentioned this a few times, but I had this dream once where everything was so vivid that, despite knowing I was dreaming, everything was so detailed and I couldn't force myself awake - so I began to think "maybe I am awake, and I'm losing my mind."

And this other time there was a fire near my house and I had to grab some precious belongings and leave. I thought for a second that I might be dreaming and did a reality check (sticking my finger through my collar bone, which worked previously), but I felt just solid, inpenetrable flesh there, and again everything was looking real, and I thought to myself "what am I doing screwing around with reality checks! There's a fire outside!" and continued on with the dream... Later on I told a bunch of dream characters how I thought I was dreaming.

Then I woke up and realised I had been dreaming, so I went back to sleep and saw the same DCs again and told them, "guess what, I was dreaming!" without actually realising at the time that this was all a dream >.<

Yes! In my most recent, a false-awakening DILD, I was lying in my bed and my mom came into the room sipping her coffee. She spilled some on me when she sat on my bed, because the mattress moved just as it would in RL. I tasted the drops on my skin and it tasted as it should. I sat up and realized my bed was on the wrong side of the room. I thought it was a dream, but everything was just as realistic as RL, except that across the room was my bed where it should be, which was empty. I asked my mom if it was a LD (she LDs too and we always talk about them) and she nodded yes, grinned, and sipped her coffee. I couldn't tell if it was some sort of prank, or if it really was a LD, even though I knew it had to be. A RC even failed, so I had to do a series. I have never had one that realistic, it was just insane! I thought I was going nuts, but luckily I knew it was just a LD

Anyway, long story short... Series of reality checks are your friends And when you are feeling insane, there are a lot of us out here who know exactly what you experienced!

      Wow!
I've had this happen to me too.

One LD: I was riding in the back of a pickup truck through an industrial complex. A tornado was coming down ahead of us. I could feel rain and bits of hail stinging my skin. There were a whole line of fires, and as we passed each one I felt the heat, heard the rain sizziling. I was back there grinning like an idiot, not scared at all, thrilled with how beautiful and vivid it all was. Then I thought it had better be a dream because I was gonna die!
