      Dream Emulator

      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LSD_%28video_game%29

I'm not sure if this has been posted on DV in the past. I was initially going to post it in the entertainment forums but I figured that it is of general interest to lucid dreamers.

It's for psx. But of course, it can be ran through an emulation program for pc. PM me if you need help with emulating psx.

Wow, this sounds pretty awesome. I'm totally going to play it sometime, it just sounds really trippy and cool.

That sounds like a Hell of a lot of fun. I want!

You can also emulate dreams by closing your eyes and pretending. The visuals are maybe not as good, but you'll save yourself like twenty dollars.

You can perform many different techniques in order to increase visual realism.
All my closed-eye visualisations seem pretty damn realistic.

Someone please post help on getting this game?

I have a playstation, and this game sounds revolutionary, but outdated graphics might be a show stopper for me. I hope this kind of game comes out for Xbox360, because it certainly sounds like it has a lot of potential. also, its supposed to only have one musical score that changes through 500 different patterns. Sounds like it could get annoying listening to a song that has the same rythem the whole time. Also, I see no screens or other info on this game, and from the sound of it it sounds way to next-gen to be real. I think this game might be a joke

Wow, this is really cool, thanks for telling us about this, I think I'll have to emulate this one. I searched youtube for lsd psx, and there are some very interesting videos from this game. I wish it had more modern graphics, and that the various DCs could speak, but even without these things, it still looks like something I could waste a lot of time on.

It's procedurally generated, it's not a joke. Procedural generation has been around for quite some time. I've set the game up and have played it quite a bit, the graphics are as expected for 1998 but none the less it is certainly something that is interesting to explore.

There is a game of similar concept called LOVE that is due for release in the near future and will obviously have much nicer graphics. Not a lot of information has been released about it apart from it being a procedurally generated MMO exploration game.

Anyway, you can youtube some footage of the game if you're skeptical.

are you saying you can customize the game by order of scenarios? please explain

yeah, the graphics are horrible, but none the less the feel in it is very cool. I like that part about it a lot. other than that though, the list of problems is huge, it has a ghost town feel to it, and if you run into any object including fences it takes you to another scenario, which is an awesome feature, but leaves little interaction with environments if any at all, so its pretty far from anything that is going to be close to a lucid experience. very basic, but surprised at how good it feels. Creating a dream like experience in video games is going to take up too much memory, I think its going to take over 10 years to get going with games like that that have wacky driven plots and instances, its just too advanced for an xbox360 or ps3 hardware system.

The biggest problem though is that no one has the BALLS to make games near that kind of fidelity, and I am left with unoriginal games on my 360.

I don't quite understand what you are asking. Are you talking about LSD or LOVE. Can you rephrase the question. Sorry ><

I just got it working today, and it is very interesting. The primitive graphics and lack of plot, speech, and interaction are a little dissapointing, and I agree that they should attempt this kind of thing again on a more modern system than the PSX, but it's interesting enough that I could still waste plenty of time on it without getting bored.

I went through one dream already. I ended up walking through a field, and across a bridge, and entered a long, dark tunnel in a building. On the other end of the building was another field, filled with monuments, and I passed under a bridge. I ran into an easter island head statue, and found myself near a waterfall that dropped forever. As giant fish floated overhead, I crossed a bridge over a bottomless chasm. I approached a large hole in the ground, and suddenly a large rocket launched from within it. I jumped into the hole to see if it lead anywhere, but then woke up.

The emulator I use and recommend is ePSXe. A google search will allow you to find it easily, and the included help file provides all the information you need to get it running.

Girl I know used to have a PSOne game like that. Pipe Dream, or something. It had fewer variations on the music theme, but it had more than one track (maybe 25), and was more abstract. It had a CD, but no book.
