      Earplugs and Lucidity

I have really loud neighbors who often make rediculous noise at crazy hours and it's not helping my attempts being lucid. So last night, I tried using earplugs before bed to block out any potential noises. They helped me relax quickly, but I found that I could barely remember any of my dreams this morning, and I have really good dream recollection.

Has anyone else ever used earplugs and had this effect or is it just me?

I've found that when I use earplugs- and I use them most nights- that I have dreams that involve lots of really noisey things, like rushing water and large er...vehicles, I guess you'd say- I think it's because i can hear the rush of blood in my head-I have less ( and i've only had a few) LD's without the plugs because I sleep lightly and tend to wake

I used to use them every night in college, and the month I got into lucid dreaming I kept using them. My dream recall went up (I began keeping a serious DJ) and I started having crazy amounts of lucids. My guess would be that (and tell me if I'm wrong) you are not accustomed to using ear plugs? In that case, give your body some time to get used to it and keep it up with the dream journal and reality checks. You'll be back to dreaming and hopefully on to lucid dreaming in no time

I could never use earplugs. To get to sleep I have to be listening to outside noises.. Which is why I don't think I will ever be able to WILD.

I would feel too vulnerable with ear plugs. If I here somthing out of the ordinary then I want to wake up. Thats more important than a dream IMO.

I use earplugs too. (Neighbors too. >_> )

They do tend to be uncomfortable though when I'm lying on my side with the pillow to my head, but they do the job lowering the volume around here.

Can't say they effect remembering dreams though because I haven't had that problem with them.

They definitely make me feel more vulnerable- But since I HAVE to sleep I use them and then use my cats (I know) as my yardstick....I normally sleep really, REALLY lightly, but I've learned that if I wake up, if only just for a split second and see my cats lying in the hallway- then it's all good...they're like pittbulls, except they'd probably just slime you with hairballs.

Hahaha I use my pets for the same thing They are a huge comfort right after a nightmare!

I dunno, ear plugs seem to block out the annoying noises that keep you from falling asleep, but anything loud enough to be unusual you could probably hear anyway. Of course the earplugs I used were cheap, I guess it depends on the quality

I've tried using earplugs to sleep before (military-grade shooting range plugs, and then a cheap drugstore equivalent), but my problem is that the cheap drugstore earplugs are just barely the wrong shape, so the plastic presses between the pillow and my ear. If anyone can help with that?

I find that if I'm watching something on my PC, (set it to autoshutdown) and fall asleep watching it throughout the night I'll have dreams and such, but the dreams re always really normal and I don't rmemeber them as easily.

I sleep with my window fan on. Similar to earplugs in that it drowns out any unnecessary noise from either outside or inside the house.

However, whether it's a factor in my recent inability to WILD has yet to be determined...

Same here- if they are the foam bullet shape, try trimming just the tip from the small end and then turn them around so the big end goes in first- they stay in better with less crowding for me...I just tried the soft wax ones...more comfy but what a mess if you have hair longer than a high and tight.

just a p.s., if you have animals and use earplugs, be careful about putting them away- eating them
(which animals love to do for some reason) can kill them

Nah, it;s the rubber christmas tree shape, with the three plates of flexible rubber with a column holding them together, and the column sticks out at the end like the christmas tree's trunk, so you can pull it out of your ear. At least my original ones were a christmas tree shape. The new ones are more of a thick bullet shape.

      Anyway, thanks for the suggestion!

Personally, I just really dig them in there with my pinky finger. They never fit right the first time going in for me. Twist and push, just try not to hurt yourself (although I've dug them in as far as they'll go without problems).

I've used earplugs and found it to really help my sleep, although I'm not aware of it having any effect on the content of the dreams or my recall.
