we can i remember dreams one week then i cant for the next 3?

i dont know why i am so inconsistent with my recall. like i will have one week where i will remember 4 long and vivid dreams every night, then for like the next 3 weeks i will onlt be able to remember tiny parts of dreams if even that. does anyone else experiance this. and whenever i am able to remember my dreams good i usually have an ld 2 out of 3 days.

The big question is obviously if you are keeping a dream journal or not. If you are, keep it up, if you aren't, start! Aside from that, it's probably just a normal thing for you to do that, if it happens consistently. I recall vivid details almost 6 nights a week. To the point it's predictable, dream journal or not, I'm gonna get 6 days of extreme detail and one night of nothing per week. Unfortunately last night was that nothing night, I remembered enough to write three lines. This against the normally two page minimum with three pages being average. So maybe you need to practice recalling more, or maybe it's just how you are right now. Trying to force yourself into recalling, at least for me, tends to actually make it worse. Is it possible you get really excited when you have your vivid and lucid dreams, then try extra hard for three weeks to recall everything before "giving up" and just accepting it as it is, only for it to return?

Edit: oh I said above I recall really well even without a dream journal, which IS true... to a point. That point being when I wake up, yeah I can always remember, but if I don't write it down before stirring too much, I will lose it forever.

Can you see this 1 week/ 3 week phenomena as being a very definable pattern in your journal? Not like it just happened once or twice but many times in a regular type of pattern?

Then it seems to me it's probably just an anomaly.

The power of mind is an amazing thing. I didn't have dream recall for decades. But when I did this dream interpretation workshop I was able to recall a detailed dream.

My lack of dream recall is a health problem - a nutritional problem. I have a B6 deficiency which explains my lack of recall. B6 is one thing to consider for lack of dream recall. One thing I learned was when dream recall is restored (a couple times a week) then I can assume my B6 levels are good.

I think B6 is good to try but there may be other things too.
Some find melatonin causes them extremely vivid dreams. Metalotonin is one step away from serotonin. So it may be about serotonin levels, I'm not sure. (B6 helps with serotonin and dopamine levels.)

But taking a small dose of B6 at night before bed is one thing to try. Maybe telling yourself before you go to bed that you will wake up with dream recall might help if you keep doing it.

I like to keep a tap recorder by my bedside so I don't have to write down my dreams. Dreams are symbolic and I think that struggling with the right word or sentence structure may hang me up in the dream recording process.

      Happy dreams!

Good advice that. Melatonin is synthesized in your brain from Serotonin which is synthesized from 5-Hydroxytryptophan in your brain. You can take 5-HTP to boost both, in my case i find it destroys my recall like anything I would take, The B6 thing is a good idea, it's cheap. It doesn't help me but hey, I'm weird.
