      I can't open my eyes

This happens to me on long dreams sometimes. I'm haveing the dream (not LDing) and i get pretty far into it when i shut my eyes and can't open them again. I try really hard to open them and i just can't do it. After awhile of trying say 2 3 minutes i get them open and the dream picks up where it left off.

Any idea what this is and how to get out faster or better yet, prevent it?

I have had that happen to me sometimes....very frustrating.
If not that my vision would be VERY blurry and i would ahve no peripheral vision. I would move my head around and try to focus but it was sooooo blurry.
Something that i gave noticed helps is to stop trying and just relax, usually your eyelids wil just come open.
That might be just a personall thing too.
Whats better than complete freedom from laws, both judicial and physical?

You say you get pretty far into the dream when you shut your eyes. So at this point were you already dreming? Or is this event taking place in a concious state?
Somtimes opon awakening you can have what thay call sleep paralysis. Your body somtimes will not move because it is in between the state of dreaming and awakening. Are any other parts of your body paralized? During a dream, your mind shuts of the physical reaction that you would be carring out had it been a real event.
Also there is hypnopompic hallucinations. This is where I have expieriance a similar event. You are coming out of a dream and your subconcious throws images, I prefer to say rather than hallucinations, Yet you are concious. Once again your mind is in between states of conciousness & subconcious. One is coming out of sleep while the other can occurr at differant times.
As sOberbob sais it is best just to relax. Somtimes if you let it flow you can have very cool HI images apear. It is nothing that is going to hurt you!!

when you go to sleep tonight just repeat over and over 'if my eyes close and i cannot open them,im in a dream'
that way you can use it as a dream sign to get lucid 8)

the only problem with that is it only happens now and then. I'd rather focus on a MILD technique than the eyes.

that used to happen to me, except it would usually last the whole dream. it doesnt happen anymore. i think the reason it happened to me was i was sleeping very lightly, and my dream eyes are connected to my real ones in some way. (like i'm actually trying to 'see' the dream, not to just see it with my dream eyes, ie, my mind.)

for me it just went away. i think you should just practise getting them open and eventually it will be easier. i think your problem could be you're trying to open your eyes, when in actual fact, you have no eyes - there aren't any to open, so trying to open them just makes it worse. just keep them closed and stop worrying about it. try to focus on an object through your eyelids, until it becomes clear, as if they were open.

if you're not lucid, then just remember what you tried to do, and dont do exactly the same thing next time.

there are endless possibilities in your own dream world, so dont be stuck trying the same technique of just forcing them open. the more you force them, the more you believe its impossible, the harder it gets.

ask yourself why your eyes are stuck, if there is a reason it will be ridiculous... just be positive and say "this is stupid, my eyes are fine."

remember in the dream that your eyes are only shut if you're thinking it.
