Was this a lucid? (very odd situation)

Okay, I had a dream, and I knew it was a dream, a recurring dream from a couple of years back (a couple to a few weeks after the start of Season 3 of the revived Doctor Who series), I could evenb notice changes in this version of the dream from what had occured in the original, and I could skip over bits I'd already seen to go see parts of the dream I'd missed the first time through, but the thing is, I didn;t know I was dreaming it.

Let me run that by you again. I knew i was a dream, but I didn;t know I was dreaming it. How's that for odd? I think I assumed I was running through an unusually detailed memory of a dream I'd had. I didn;t dream that I was dreaming it, I just dreamed it, and, though i knew it was a dream, didn;t realize I was dreaming it this time, too. It had all the marks of a lucid dream, except that I don;t know if you need to know you are dreaming for it to be lucid, ir if you just need to know it;'s a dream and can be controlled by your mind for it to count as lucid.

Please help! This is driving me crazy, trying to classify it as lucid (controlled or uncontrolled, probably controlled) or nonlucid!

(PS: If you need the story of the dream it's at my dream journal at Keyword: Theater=Dimensional gates. I figured the plot was unimportant to my question.)

      Nope. No lucid.

That's like saying you were using the steering wheel, but the car wasn't moving. Were you driving?
What if I told you that I am dreaming right now?
That your whole life is a lie?
That the laws of physics as you know them are incorrect?

Furthermore, what would you do if I told you I'm going to wake up as soon as you finish reading my signature?

Yeah, that's why I was asking everyone. I still can;t figure out if it counted, since I knew it was all in my head. I just assumed I was imagining this consciously, instead of while asleep (why I didn;t RC, because I knew it was not real). Really weird.

(I actually see it more as... thinking you're running a flight simulator, when it turns out you were actually in a real plane the whole time. Actually, no, that doesn;t work well either. No proper metaphor yet.)

I agree with Mini Man56 - your weren't having a lucid. You didn't know you were asleep; your waking, objective awareness was not engaged.

I'd say it was about as close to a lucid as you can get without it being a lucid. I've had lots of dreams that were hard to classify because while they weren't normal dreams, they weren't true lucids either; something between the two.

Maybe we need a new category - call them 'pre-lucids' or something like that.

Metalucid? I think semi-lucid is already taken... And protolucid doesn;t quite fit. THis is just driving me mad, trying to figure out exactly what this is. You know it's a dream, but ypou don;t know you're dreaming... nonlucid lucid? no... Well, I'll keep thinking about this, if anyone thinks of a proper name for this... Just, reply here, please...

That works. Definition 2 in Webster's collegiate dictionary is resembling to some degree, so that works on a couple of different levels. That's what it shall be!

Quasi-Lucid: Dreaming When YOu THink You're Only Thinking About Dreaming

(although with that definitiuon, meta-lucid also works... I can stick with quasi)

I've had stuff like this happen to me before. I would be asleep ( I think I had my eyes open ) and would be dreaming. Somebody would bump into me in the dream, and I would move my leg. I realized " Hey! I move my leg every time this happens! I guess I don't want to walk into them ". Still never became lucid or woke up though. It was really weird. Not the same thing, I know..
