Some lucid dreams can even be halted by you losing your mind set and of course as you know, can become a nightmare. Best advice i can give to you is, Keep your eyes on the prize. Don't let any type of fear or happiness control your dreams. After all this is still your brain creating what you see and just like you can control your thoughts. Dreams are alike.
Yeah messy is a good way of putting it. I always tell myself not to rush into doing things in LDs and to take time to stabilize the dream(s); but it just seems like I have a totally different mindset when Im dreaming. Im going to remember your advice and definitely not let something like this happen again if Im lucid. Thanks for the tip!

I remember i had a dream once, years ago, and it was a repetitive nightmare. it went like this: it was nighttime and i was standing at a doorway of a house where i'd see a man across the street dressed in black, holding a gun. he watches me until i realize he's there and he starts chasing me around the house to kill/rape me.
so in a repeat version of the dream, maybe 3rd or 5th, i see myself standing at a door way of a house. i knew this was familiar and i've been here before in another dream. so i realized that there should be a man dressed in black holding a gun (criminal) watching me from across the street waiting for the right moment to run after me to rape/kill me. as soon as my eyes found him, it was like he heard a gun fire to signal "GO!" to get me. I felt great fear and ran in side, i kept seeing him getting closer and closer. He kept chasing me and i kept running as fast as i could to save myself. i may have forgotten it was a dream as i was running because it felt too real and it felt too urgent, so i kept running until i turned into a room in the house and hid under a desk, which was really stupid because it was the open side of the desk which faced the door (whoever enters sees me under a desk).
after that, i was just waiting for him to come find me and attack me. It was so scarey waiting for this criminal to show up and point a gun at me or get a hold of me. it was truly frightening. my heart beat so fast i was trying to think of something smart to do to escape as i was stuck under a desk with no place to hide. when the man showed up and pointed the gun at me, i begged "hold on, please!" and i got out from under the desk and i stood up. i wanted to think of something to do to escape. then, angrily I said "Hey! this is a dream, and I know it's a dream! so come on! shoot me!" and i walked closer, i was afraid but determined. i continued because i kept remember that his is a dream... "that's right, I'm not afraid of you! Go ahead and shoot me! what are ya gonna do? I'm not gonna die, you can't kill me. come on, shoot me now! shoot me!!" as i approached him he looked like he got "caught," so he ran away instantly in fear that i would hurt him.
i felt amazing relief to have that work.
I was really afraid but i thought, to heck with it, i have to do this to surviveand prevent experiencing any more horror. and it felt great. If i hadn't stood up and walked closer to the character to play out my role as the more powerful one, i wouldn't have been able to scare the criminal away.
I share this dream/nightmare so that you may find encouragement to do the same if you should experience a nightmare like that again.
remember to ignore the characters' threats--however frightening they may seem. i found that my willingness to risk feeling pain had defeated my fear of the character, because i knew this was only a dream and that i didn't want to experience being powerless. so, i decided to take control and do something rather than surrender or give up.
generally in dreams (actually, even in real life), YOU write the script. but you can't "command" things. you have to "see/imagine" them into being. if you can't see them, they just won't happen. you're the only one that needs to believe in your power in order for that power to be useful.
The lesson to be learned: Never give up on your power to take control; use it no matter the objections.
easier said than done, but that's how it's done =)
Im sorry about your nightmare as well; I couldnt imagine having my nightmare repeatedly like you did.
But I agree w/ you on how emotions affect the content of our dreams b/c I felt fear from the start of the dream despite being lucid; I guess thats why everything was so dark and gloomy. But I expected everything to get better b/c of the fact that I was lucid; thats where I was wrong. I wish I had slowed down and rethought what I was doing like you did, but like I said above, it just seems like you have a completely different mindset when you're dreaming, and hence, dont make the (logical) decisions that you would make in RL. Tthanks for the advice!
