      Another SP Question

Ok, we all know that we can become aware of being in the SP state.
And from what I gather, we only dream during REM sleep and then
SP kicks in so we don't act out our dreams while sleeping. We can
wake up in the middle of a dream and still find ourselves in SP.
      My question is this:
A lot of times we can wake up in the middle of a dream because maybe
a noise or an alarm wakes us up. Why is it that most times when we wake
up in the middle of a dream, we are not still in SP??

This morning I woke up in the middle of a dream when my alarm went off,
and I was not experiencing SP at all. If I were dreaming still, then shouldn't
I still have been in SP?

I've often wondered about this same thing, supreme. I'd venture to guess that whether or not we remain in SP upon awakening must have something to do with whether or not we are brought around by external stimuli.

I've never awoken due to a noise or physical contact with an object or person in the waking world to find myself in SP. But by this point in time I have awoken many times into SP from a dream that was either extremely frightening or one that involved a lot of motion (spinning, flying through the air, falling, etc).

I can't even begin to explain the chemistry of something like this but given the observed outcomes I think it is safe for me to assume this is true, at least for myself. However, everyone may be different in this regard.

Life in a box is better than no life at all, I expect. You'd have a chance, at least. You could lie there thinking, "Well. At least I'm not dead.'

I know! It's weird! When I'm aware I'm in SP though, I usually can't remember
what I was dreaming at the time, or at least I can't remember anymore.
Maybe a full bladder can wake us up too soon. But you're right though,
usually a noise bringing you out of your dream also cancels out SP very
quickly, or so it seems. I looked up SP and there were no answers for this
      question that I could find.

My efforts have yielded similar results. I've read about SP from a number of different, 'reputable' sites and there has been no mention of our topic.

Just last night I felt myself falling into SP, then my cat stretched out and pawed my hand trying to grab onto it almost. It flustered me. haha

Evolution. Ages ago, when something woke us up in the middle of the night in an unnatural way, it was dangerous and we had to grab a weapon and fight. The body evolved so that it could pull out of SP very rapidly. Your brain is preprogrammed to think your alarm is a threat.

Ways to avoid this are: placing the alarm further away. Your brain can figure out how far away it is and will think of it as less of the threat if it's far away. Also, it will be quieter, quiet sounds are less threatening as well. Also, eventually, your brain will recognize that it is just your alarm and get used to it, that will take a while though.

I can understand that, and women today, still sometimes have to wake up
quickly to get a weapon and fight. The women who found Richard Ramirez
in their bedrooms late at night, weren't quick enough though.

Just noting, we can dream outside of REM sleep, but those dreams tend to be a bit simplistic and harder to remember.

Won't placing your alarm farther away only make it more of a pain in the ass to turn off?

Now instead of rolling over and pushing the buttons, you have to get out of bed and walk across the room.. Good luck with that DEILD!

I don't think there's anyway to wake up into SP unless that is something that happens naturally to you.. When you wake up, you're awake! Right!?

I have a chinese friend who told me about this cultural legend of a ghost who will sit on your chest at night. He said he had many experiences of waking up with this "ghost" sitting on his chest and he couldn't move or speak, only lay in bed until he fell asleep or the ghost left. He said this had happened many times to him. I always thought he was waking up during SP.

Not really a daydream, just another dream. The only difference is the brainwave state, and indirectly the clarity/realism.

Because your brain is functioning like it should and is coming out of sp when you wake up.

I wake up in SP quite a lot and mostly in the middle of the night. The ghost
sitting on the chest thing I believe was SP as well, because that could
conceivably happen very easily during SP. Anyway it's pretty rare that I'll
wake up and still be experiencing SP but it does happen sometimes. When
we wake up normally but quickly in the middle of a dream, you'd think there
would be some feeling of the SP wearing off......but it's just gone, just like
      that!
