The more attention you give something, the more real it becomes. That is true of dreams or real life.
That makes a lot of sense

Last night i had a really odd dream, were i put my hand on a sea-urchin. Its spikes went right into my fingers. It hurt like hell!! It felt like really painful pins-and-needles. I kept dreaming and i remember pulling the spikes out of my thumb with a pair of pliers. I woke up after this, and the pain dissappeared straight away, lol.

I thought this was slightly scary; as i usually wake up with pain in a dream, and this pain was much worse than anything I've experienced before in a dream!!

Well, usually it feels like pins and needles, and then I wake up to the dreaminjured limb ACTUALLY being asleep and tingling, but I HAVE been sliced and cut in dreams before. It feels what I'm sure ACTUALLY being sliced/cut would feel like in reality, but I had a MUCH higher tolerance for it. Like I was getting cut for a couple minutes, then realized I should be feeling pain, and then I felt the pain from the cuts there on out. Like it stung really bad but I was like 'eh...I can take it.'
That sort of worried me though because I'd heard that you aren't supposed to feel real pain in dreams. :\ oh well.

I've never heard that, but I think that would be like saying you aren't supposed to hear or see in dreams... I think it's totally normal. In my experience only people with regularly vivid dreams get/remember a lot of dream pain, so maybe that's why people say that.

I've suffered horrible pain in dreams - the worst I can remember is being stabbed in the chest and it really hurt - I woke up and it still hurt for a few minutes too! (But not as much once I was awake, more like the memory of pain) Very wierd.

Well, believing it worked up until recently. lol.
Now I noticed that once you believe you'll feel the pain, you do. :\

I have had all sorts of wierd things happening to me, like getting shot with a slingshot right through the head, eaten by a werewolf, flying out of control and hitting the pavement from a great height.

I find the pain is a sort of "pressure" to the area and it is attached to a negative emotion. So although it doesn't hurt physically like in the real world, I feel like something bad just happened and have a sort of anxiety over it in the dream.

Ive been eaten alive by zombies in a barn and felt every last time they bit me. Needless to say, it was a horrible nightmare and very painful one.

I'm reading all these posts about people who've experienced intense pain in their dreams and feel so happy I can't relate.

I think the closest I've come to feeling pain in a dream, was when I was paying for stuff at a supermarket and a riot suddenly started up inside. The cashier pulled out an axe from under the counter and promptly scalped me. It was like a really intense headache for a couple seconds, and then this cold sensation spread out from the wound and I blacked out.

Ive been axed up before too. It was a nightmare I had a long time ago, but its one of those I probably wont evr forget. It was like in the 16th or 17 century and I was in the body of someone who had been locked in a castle for doing something wrong. Then as I looked out, I noticed there was an insane man w/ an axe coming for me, but being locked in, there was nothing I could do about it. He eventually got to the top and then began swinging madly at my back.
This one wasnt as nearly as bad as the zombies in the barn nightmare though.

Pain in dreams is not always like pain in real life, it is easier to take, and not as strong most of the time, it is similar to the diffrences between a real life orgasm and a dream orgasm the feeling is not bound by a specific set of stimuli, it may range in to diffrent types of closely related feelings.
