      What happened there, then?

      Hullo

This has happened to me several times now. I realise I'm dreaming, then go into a state where I appear to be conscious whilst asleep. Instead of my dream becoming real, I am just left alone with my thoughts. I'm able to spin around, which is quite fun, but there's no particular visual aspect, other than occasional daydream-like flashes.

After I realise nothing much is happening, I always wake myself up. At that point, it all appears to be nothing more than a dream. I initially concluded that's all it was, but it's happened enough times now for me to know that I do attain some degree of consciousness in this state. Gah. Why doesn't it turn into a lucid dream?

I am no expert but have you tried visualizing a scenario you want to be in? Spin around while visualizing your room or something. Try it and post back.

have you tried focusing on what is around you? stare at the ground and see what's there. bend down and run your hand along it, what does it feel like. (i wish i could think of stuff like this while lucid, lol)

also, this isn't a WILD before sleep, is it?

I don't think I'd be able to wilfully visualise or attempt to feel anything, but I'll try next time if I'm lucid enough to remember. The images just seem to come and go like daydreams, and they're just vague movie-like images that don't seem in any way real. I'm guessing I'm just experiencing a very low level of lucidity. I've tried spinning around and yelling "increase lucidity" but it hasn't done anything. I seem to remain in a dreamy state regardless. A few times previously I was trying to convince myself that I was actually conscious, so I kept repeating to myself "I'm not just dreaming that I'm dreaming", which obviously doesn't make sense - so maybe that's some indication as to my level of consciousness in this state.

Oh and no, it's not a WILD - this occurs when I become conscious in the middle of deep sleep.
