not always true about a hard day's working and getting to sleep easily. I recently had been having great difficulty getting to sleep. I would be dead tired and my body aching it wanted to sleep so much, but the mind would not let us.

After struggling with many many nights of laying in bed for hours before I could get to sleep, I found that now I can usually get to sleep pretty quick if I lay on my stomach. Before, for I dunno how many years, I always went to sleep at night on my back and on my stomach during the day for a nap, and couldn't do it vice-versa... But it is true what they say and things do change. I tried on my stomach one night out of desperation and it worked and has been working.

So maybe try getting to sleep in a different position than you are accustomed to at night?

If it continues for long periods of time and you are unable to find the cause or a solution on your own, consider seeking professional help from someone in the field. There is nothing fun or funny about insomnia.
