      Wake up in REM?

Is it possible to do this? A few days ago I was sleeping in and was startled by something. Maybe my fan? Anyways, I sort of wake up but my vision is quite blurry and my I cannot really focus or control my eyes; they just kind of do their own thing.

It was pretty weird and lasted for about 5-10 seconds.

are you sure it wasn't a false awakening? What do you mean by "it lasted"?

Sometimes because of the pressure of my pillow on my eyes, I can experience numbness and/or blurriness or a difference in light sensitivity in my eyes (because one was exposed to the ambient light and the other was pressed against the pillow). I don't think this has anything to do with REM, but the physiological sensations of putting pressure on and keeping light from your eyes.
