      Advice/Help?

I joined Dream Views back in June when I found out that the 'weird dreams' I had been having were Lucid Dreams (more specifically WILDs) and I wanted to learn more about them. So I was on and off the site reading a few things here and there but nothing really that stuck with me. Well ever since I figured out what my dreams were, I had been thinking, 'I'm going to have to try and control it like these people do.'

However, every time I'd fall into a WILD, it would be at random (because they just kind of happen, I don't try) and I would be thinking, 'shit I don't want to do this now! I want to sleep!' So I'd try to wake myself up and I would succeed rather quickly.

It seems, though, that my WILDs have been happening more frequently and it's becoming more and more difficult to pull myself out of them. The other night was pretty scary for me. I realized I was having a WILD, and started to try and wake myself up. I flailed my arms around and tried to open my eyes as I normally do, and kept flailing and moving, then my body had this massive jolt of pain. I felt it everywhere.

So after it stopped, I started trying harder to wake myself up. After a few more minutes I finally screamed, 'WAKE UP' and that caused my entire body to feel like a was being stabbed repeatedly with several knives. I finally woke myself up, after falling off my bed (in my dream) and talking to two random girls I didn't know.

      It really freaked me out.

I was looking through here to try and find something to help, but there are so many topics and so much information. I wanted to know if feeling random extreme pain is normal while LDing? I sure hope so.

I just think I need to learn how to control it as a whole, but this site is kind of overwhelming. Any advice, help, pointing in the right direction would be appreciated.

Well if your trying to wake yourself up from dreams and prevent them that's just crazy -_- About them being lucid. I don't see any hints that show any lucidity in what you wrote. I never feel any pain in fact even in the dream world, pain just doesn't cross my mind. Of course your going to be overwhelmed by how much there is to learn and that's the beauty of it all. You can always learn/gain more skill.

      I don't think it's 'crazy' at all.

So you're saying I'm not having lucid dreams? Then what are they? Because from what I've read what I have happen to me sounds like a Lucid Dream. I only even found out what they were because a friend of mine whose been Lucid Dreaming his whole life told me that's what it was. I don't experience pain during all of them, it's only ever happened that one time.

doesn't sound like it was lucid to you?

Welcome, Waking_Life. I have read posts like yours, about members who are naturals (can lucid dream without any efforts) like you, and how they wish they could simply get a good night's sleep. I haven't read any accounts of them feeling pain while trying to wake up.

There are a number of threads about pain during lucid dreams on this forum, though.

I don't have any personal experience so I can't really offer any more advice. I understand the the forums can seem a bit daunting at first, since you are a natural and have no problems with inducing lucid dreams, I would head straight to the Dream Control section if I were you. Working on your dream control may help you avoid similar situations. Pain during a dream can sometimes be ended by simply ignoring the pain, by distracting yourself and immersing yourself in some other behavior. On the whole, dream control can make your lucid experiences much more enjoyable and not something to dread every night. Here's the link to that section: http://www.dreamviews.com/community/...splay.php?f=14

Here is a link on how to get out of SP http://www.dreamviews.com/community/...light=out+exit I am having trouble finding other links that I know are out there (the search function REALLY needs to let us include stand-alone 2-character terms like SP, DC, DJ... ugh). Can anyone else help provide some links to techniques for waking your body out of SP?

      Good luck, Waking_Life

      Thank you so much Shift!

That is so strange about the pain I've never had it happen before so maybe it's because the WILD lasted longer than it usually does? I'm not sure. I'll just have to see I guess.

Yes, I saw the Dream Control section but I wasn't sure if I was getting ahead of myself or not. I do want to learn how to control them, because this is such a cool thing. I just have so much trouble with sleeping in general, and a busy schedule (with school and what not) that whenever I have them it just feels like 'no I really need to get to sleep' even though really.. I am sleeping.

I don't know, I'll figure something out, thanks again so much for all the links!

I am curious, do you find that they leave you exhausted or more tired? Most of the members here aren't naturals, and strive for and work really hard to lucid dream. But when we have them, or at least when I do, they are incredibly invigorating and energizing. For example, last year I didn't have class until noon. I'd gone to sleep at 1am, and had a lucid dream at 5am. I was so pumped when I woke up that I just got up at 5, instead of sleeping until about 9. I just felt completely refreshed and awake. I know a lot of other people on here have said the same thing. Maybe looking at them in a more positive light will accomplish that for you?

Maybe, I don't know. I've never let them last long enough to find out.

Because to me, I'll be laying there, thinking about.. whatever, then all the sudden I realize I'm WILD'ing, and since I'm still conscious it just seems like I'm not actually asleep even though I am.

      If that makes sense?

Plus, I don't have any control over them. I can move my arms, and open my eyes but that's about it, and I always roll off my bed, but other than that I don't do anything (except for the one night with the two random girls, but even then I wasn't moving I was just laying on my floor looking at them while they talked to me.

Then definitely read up on all of the threads on here that you can, especially the dream control bits. I think you are missing out on a very very cool part of your life! And it does seem pretty awful and negative right now, but um.... I would do anything to have those problems, knowing what they can be turned into haha
