      How do you Fly?

And with that, I don't mean, how do you make yourself fly, in dreams.

But rather...when flying in dreams, what unique way do you fly?

I personally swim to fly, in dreams. And depending on how fast I want to/am flying, the "more I swim"
Slow flying=Gliding in Swimming (hands to my sides, feet together...kind of like superman)
Medium flying= Hands to my side, but kicking my feet
Fast flying= All out free style

Then last night for the first time, I actually was "treading water" in sky, in order to stay airborne.

I am just curious if everybody "swims" to fly, or just me.
Its interesting, because no matter how lucid I am, I always HAVE to swim to fly. I can't just fly any other way.
I never fly with wings for instance.

Anybody want to share how they fly?

My flight doesn't require a particular motion; I just go where I want to go.

Kinda like Superman I guess usually, but I'm quite often wary of falling, and then of course I do sometimes! Don't seem to be able to get very high up (ie outer space) but high enough for my needs right now, probably to do with the fear of falling. But yeh Superman, it just kinda happens, I'm just like "I'm gonna fly now" and then I just do really without much thought, that's about the only thing I'm pretty good at controlling in my dreams!

It varies. In my lucid dream recently, I had to kinda swim to fly, but just one stroke got me pretty far. Sometimes in normal dreams I just fly where I want. Sometimes it's like I have some sort of helium or something in me that I control that makes me go higher or lower.

I always used to use the swimming technique just to gain altitude if i had
grounded myself in the dream for a closer look on the ground. Once high
enough tho, i just take off like a rocket. For some reason i couldnt do that
from the ground. I will always start the flying right from my bedroom and
just fly outside already high enough to just take off. But....in my last LD,
from ideas i got in here, when i was on the ground, i just thought of jet
propulsion from my feet and it worked immediately....and worked fast also!
I just went straight up! Then took off horizontally like a rocket....always pretty
fast, i never want to fly slowly in a LD.
Before though, when i would use the swimming technique to gain altitude,
it wouldnt always work well and many many times it was more as if i
were treading water in the air. When this would happen i would climb a
pole usually to jump off and then take off from there. But now ive got
the grounded thing figured out...foot-jet propulsion. I had to actually think
of it for it to happen, i dont have to think about it once im higher up.

Same here. No momentum or flapping required, I just will myself off the ground and all around. However, I usually find that I tend to lean into the direction that I am flying, and if I am flying very fast I might even be completely horizontal. In those instances I will often put out my arms in a "superman" style to get the full experience .

I just think about flying and the next thing I know I am shooting through the air like a bullet. Sometimes when I have trouble I have to change it up, like do breaststroke or wiggle my body like a dolphin does.

I began flying as an extension of the running leap. Then as I got older it turned into a swimming motion (probably because I spent so much time swimming as a kid in CA). Eventually I added a rope-climbing motion to help me get higher when swimming like the dickens didn't quite cut it. Now I mostly just want to fly and then I'm doing it -- zooming without using any symbolic motion.

I fly in any position -- superman style, sitting, on my back, feet first, standing, etc.

Height or speed is only ever a problem if I anticipate that it will be. So the current flying goal is to forget to anticipate trouble! So hard sometimes!

I jump and tense my leg muscles. I don't really move anything when I'm flying.

90% of the time I'll swim through the air using breastroke method.. the other 10% I'll Just look where I want to go to and then I'll be taken there. I've tried the superman method before but I dont seem to get much acceleration.

The swimming while flying is the start of learning to really fly.
It started this way when I was like 5 years old. Then you will develop to be able to put your hand through "solid" objects and walk through them. Then you will do telekinesis. Gradually you will be able to fly higher and more easily.

      So keep up the practising.

After these stages you will get many more abilities that resemble magic.
Then at a certain point you will be spiritually tested...

I too swim. No other method works for me, but swimming does quite well.

Swimming tends to work because we associated flying to swimming, we "float" in water and can use our hands to swim through it. That's why it is easy to start with. For the few of us that hang glide or sky dive that is easy too, it's all about what we already know.

See all I do is probably have that feeling of flight inside of me while dreaming and then I start to fly but don't notice until like minutes into flying. I wonder myslef how to fly int my dreams as well. That's my main thing that I always wanted to do is to fly in my dreams(consciously) and have fun doing so.

Also think of a superhero such as NiGHTS from NiGHTS Journey of dreams that helped once.

I personally jump and flap my arms like a chicken a couple of times then I start hovering. If I want to go higher I flap my arms again, if I want to turn directions I lean my body the way I want to go.

      Or

I transform into something and Ill be automatically in the air, flying.
