      Mind awake, Body asleep?!?!? HALP!!!

I think if this was clarified it could help a lot of us "noobs."

My mind gets more and more tired every second from SP and from then on. So when you are trying to WILD/MILD, do you actually have to try to keep yourself awake and not move? Should you be able to feel yourself drifting asleep into oblivion, or is it like one second your in SP and the dream slowly comes into play?

Also, how long does it take before I should try an RC after SP sets in? I mean in that state of mind it's really hard to tell what's going to happen next. Whether I'm going to drift into a sleep or wake up again. Is this a sign that WILD is good for me because I'm an artist and good at visualizing? I mean in SP your mind distorts time and so I don't actually know when to RC, and this just leads to me drifting off into sleep without getting a chance to get into a dream or else failing an RC and waking myself up.

What did you guys do when you were starting to LD? I mean it feels like I'm almost doing the same thing everynight. Either it's too hard to get to SP or I fall asleep too fast. What's wrong with me? Am I waking up before REM??

I use a very simple version of WILD where I just fall asleep normally and wait for the falling feeling.... so I don't really have much experience with SP. I tend to sort of let my mind wander the way it does for falling asleep normally, only I "watch" and just try to remember that I'm dreaming. It's a bit hit and miss because sometimes my mind will wander too much, but otherwise I'll have just enough consciousness to be aware of the falling feeling and ready for it when it starts. At that point it becomes a lot easier because I know I'm dreaming (or at least going to be dreaming) and I just let myself "fall". Sometimes I'll see imagery while I'm falling, which can be controlled the same way as any lucid dream. Eventually I'll "land" and be completely in the dream for sure.

When you hear that cold wind calling,
Hold on tight to your dream."

When I was first starting to LD seriously, I didn't "waste" my time learning to WILD It gets discouraging, I lost sleep, I didn't know what to expect. So I just stuck to DILD, and it gave me the motivation to keep going until I was familiar enough with everything to start branching out. I still don't WILD often, and the times I have I either ended up somewhere completely besides my room, or I ended up standing in my room, which was lit up, and I was not in my bed so I knew I was dreaming. Basically what happened what a scene suddenly appeared before my eyes. One moment I was staring at black, but thinking things, then BAM! I was standing in my room and the furniture had been rearranged. The other time I wrote about here. So I didn't have to RC, because I knew that I should by lying in my bed, but I was experiencing all of these things that said that was no longer the case.

Except for that beeping, which still may have been an actual sound outside, I never experienced SP. You don't always actually perceive SP.

Yeah I know what you mean, I'm the most confident right now with DEILD or MILD. I'm just going to have to experiment with the knowledge I have now. I know what your talking about the falling sensation right before you pass out.(fall asleep) The only time I thought I could be dreaming my RC failed.. So maybe I just need to try it more. I have a REALLY hard time catching that moment though. I've got ADHD I'm on ritilan for and so I am usually either out like a light or get really relaxed and can't fall asleep. It sucksorz. I've had great luck with waking up 2-3 times a night.

I woke up and I was laying still, just about to go into a DEILD. I felt REALLY close at one point but I the feeling was less intensified after a few seconds. I still felt I could get into one. Then my cat STEPED on me because he wanted out of my room and can't open my half-open door.
