      Trouble with Dream Recall

I am having serious trouble recalling my dreams! I guess the main problem is that I don't have time to keep a dream journal. Even if I did, I really can't see how that would increase my dream recall. I also can't afford the loss of sleep caused by waking up in the middle of the night and recording my dreams. PLEASE HELP ME!

      Some recall tips:

DJ'ing helps in most cases, but sometimes I don't wake up during the night, until I wake up for good. This means that my only dream-memories are of the dream I had in my last REM cycle. Which is actually a good thing, because the longer you stay asleep, your REM cycle will lengthen with each cycle.

      1. Once I'm awake for good, I take only a few minutes to write down what I can remember from my LAST dream. This will help you to improve recall, without waking up numerous times throughout the night. After a while, you can begin to wake up throughtout the night and remember more dreams, or even remember previous dreams without actually waking up.

      2. Keeping entries in your DJ short is key. I write down key things that will later spur my memory into remembering the other parts of a dream. Try writing down short phrases that relate to the most prominent or strange parts of your dream, like "at amusement park", "prickly sensation when doing such-and-such", "DC with blue hair", and "running in slow-mo". These short phrases work like pneumonic devices (as long as they are tailored to your personal sense of memory), and when reading them over, your mind should begin to remember additional details. Also, ALWAYS write down dialogue that you can remember. I've found that writing down/remembering specific phrases spoken in a dream can help fill in the gaps later on most efficiently.

      3. Also, repeating phrases like "When I wake up I will remember my dream and write it down" helps improve recall, in the same way that repeating "I will do such-and-such in my dream tonite" helps gear your dreams toward a specific intent. Repeating phrases that encourage me to remember and write down my dreams actually produced this effect in my first LD!

      I hope this helps you...

Don't be lazy. If you want dream recall you need to keep a journal.
