      Lucidity+pot , Help

      Hey Guys
I been looking around this site and others for a month or two now , but i have a problem which is MAryJane ive been smoking it for a couple of years now and have a dependancy on it to get to sleep.
which oviously isnt going to help my recall much , as it is i have a very weak dream recall.

about a week before i found this site i was starting to become more aware in my dreams and i did start a dream journal before i even found here , but since i havnt had anything

i really want to cut down because i know its the key to my lucidity , but i just dont have a clue where to start , and how the hell do i get to sleep without many joints.

buy a bong and dont smoke so much during the day, limit yourself to like 2 medium bowls or something, have 1 whenever and have the other before you goto bed. try experimenting with how much pot it takes you to get to sleep and try to work out the absolute minimum. you could try doing other things to improve your dream recalll too.

      i started by

      1) smoking one less time a day (ie if i had 3 bong sessions a day i cut down to two, makes HGE difference)
      2) then i cut down to 6 days a week for a month, then 5...etc
      3) i didnt want to quit completely so now I smoke friday (yay its friday hehe) night, sat and sun and not during the working week. so three days a week i dont remember dreams, the other 4 its way better.

also try melatonin, i dont mean use it for the dream intensity (although thats a great side effect) but its really good for helpo with sleep when your cutting down.

GOOD luck!!!! dont try to do anything to fast or youll fail and give up.

      xxxxooo
a child's rhyme stuck in my head
it said life is but a dream
i spent so many years in question

There is erowid, but eh, dont do pot until you're 18ish. Its hard to hide from your parents, you smell funked up and it'll burn a hole straight through your pocket.

In the long run, its not all that great, and you can learn to LD yourself.

I have seen a few people who eventually depend on smoking marijuana in order to fall asleep and there is usually a residing psychological issue within these people that creates this dependancy.

It seems as though that there is a sense of comfort within smoking marijuana as it ever so slightly takes away the sense of reality and it's burdens on the individual in order to help them rest. However, this is usually a sense of repression.

The common case I see is that, these individuals originally began smoking marijuana due to the social atmosphere it created and the sentimental emphatic attachment to this. This creates a sentimental attachment to smoking marijuana in a comfortable sense. Although, they come to a point where they feel they must quit or there was an issue with their friends which took away the comfortable atmosphere that smoking created. Usually related to relationships.

The common trait I have noticed is that these people usually have lingering emotions to a previous relationship. Also, they feel at a loss and a sense of depression because they have lost so much. They usually feel there is a lot of weight on their shoulders, that they suffer a great onus (had to use my name).

Although, your case may not be nearly related at all, of course. It's worth taking a look: is there emotional attachment to smoking? What does smoking remind you of? Try "free association" with the smoking atmosphere. Perhaps it is a nostalgic habbit.

If this doesn't work, I suggest.... not buying the pot in the first place. Or, replace smoking with something else such as music, watching a movie, reading, etc. Listening to music usually works with these circumstances.

I look forward to hearing your feedback and I hope I have been enlightening.

      100% Right

im almost speechless , and today i have managed to sort out relationship between girlfriend and everything seems alot clearer.
feels like i only just got off a really long rollercoaster , that perhaps started when i 1st got into smoking.

I am still smoking but because i am now only having 2-3 joints in late evening , rather than 5-10 through out the day, im enjoying rather than doing it because i cant go without it
( if that makes any sense at all )
and recall is getting better too.

a dependancy on MJ also made me stressy when i didnt have it , which oviously doesnt help recall either.
and i dont think taking allsorts of ecstasy pills + lsd on many occaisions inbetween starting smoking pot and now helped either

      Thanks
(p.s Sorry i do tend to ramble on sometimes)

i second the music thing, onus.

i think music is the number 1 reason why i don't use drugs. but then music is a drug it self... ;p

w/the advent of internet/broadband, etc. the world of music is much easier to explore.

i started buying vinyl about 10yrs ago, (had minimal knowlege of computers, didn't even own one) and it's really burned a hole in my wallet :) :) :) -no regrets, i have a collection TO DIE FOR! :) :) :)

i've been around drugs at least since elementary school, especially in jr high when i started going to dp's, and exploring more underground shit. but more than anything, seeing several family members succum to cancer, and a stint w/homelessness left me banged up emotionally... and music saved me from turning to drugs to get rid of that hopless/powerless feeling i had... not being able do anything for family members to cure them... the whole homeless thing went down before i was old enough to get a job, but at least learned to recycle, and hustle.

in a nutshell, growing up sucked. now matter how bad i felt, music made me feel better.

i mix almost everyday before going to work, and little more before going to bed. if i've had a bad day, mixing a few records will the bad vibes go away... almost like it never happened -i feel completely revitalized emotionally, and phsyically... absolutely incredible.

      .
This is a problem i know i have. and i am fully aware of it, and actually sort of ok with it since it is the only drug, perscribed or not, that seems to set me to ease with any anxity or real problems i have. i think weed is one of the best things ever, and if it helps me lead a more normal, relaxed, clear headed day, then why not use this wonderful drug?

but, you are right, it doesnt help me with dream recalls. I am going to try cutting down a bit before bed to see what the exactl level i need to be at to fall asleep and still become lucid...

      replace pot with sex.

It's a relaxent, and it doesn't alter your mind. (Too much)

Existance has no beggining nor end, but will always have purpose.

      or

I'm in the midst of trying to quit right now too. It's hard, man. I have anxiety and insomnia problems. But you know what? I've found that pot only makes those problems worse when you try to quit. That's what excess of pleasure does to you - alleviates the problem for the time being, while compacting it and making it worse in the long run. Sex certainly works, but replacing one addiction with another is not that good for you. It's still the same cycle - just with a new "drug". I say the answer must be spiritual. Meditation certainly doesn't hurt, and relieves anxiety/stress/fears the same as weed or whatever other pleasurable addiction you have. Prayer is another. Getting involved with a community wherein people don't smoke (or whatever else) is a great way to stop because they'll encourage you not to if only by encouraging you to be involved in other activities. Another great way is to get outside. I sit in my apartment, all cooped up. I get bored with myself. To make myself (and my existence) more interesting, I light up a bowl. Bad idea. Why not go for a hike or even a walk. Go bond with the existence outside of your little box (apartment/house/room). Go downtown and people watch. It's interesting. Go sit in a meadow/park/hill/forest/mountain and nature watch. Equally fascinating, if not more. Basically, I think the root of the problem of addiction to marijuana is selfishness. Sorry if that hurts anyone's feelings - it hurts my own to have to say it really. But it's true. Those of us who indulge regularly in pleasures are simple selfish in the worst way. And we get caught in a downward spiral of selfishness. So much so that we end up totally unmotivated to do anything but our selfish pleasure/s of choice. That is why selfishness is inherrently bad - it leads to a personal hell that we become confined in a blind to. We convince ourselves we're happy only indulging in those pleasures. But true hapiness comes from selflessness. All I mean by selflessness is doing things with and for others. And by others I don't even mean just other people - I mean anything that exists at all. But never be content to fix yourself in one place or on one thing. Because "pleasure" is a lie. No one thing is truly more pleasurable than another. We just think so because of ignorance. All things that have been created are equally wonderful - we just have to understand that. I'm not just saying this to those of you reading this. I'm saying it to myself too. I must stop judging one thing to be better than another. If I don't, I'll never really be happy. And if I do, I will begin to find "pleasure" in all things. This type of pleasure is not a lie - it is the revelation of truth - and of true joy. Wow! That's great news! I've enjoyed writing this and discovering truths even as I wrote. But now I must go and find joy in something else - anything else. By the way, I don't proclaim to be perfectly right in everythng I've said - but I do think I'm going in the right direction. Just an early step in the eternal path to joy.
Just a friendly reminder to do a reality check. : ) Are you dreaming? How do you know?

      Quitting

I've found by personal experience that quitting is only really hard the first few days. After a week, its a lot easier to not puff, even if your friends are all smoking around you. Once you start smoking again though (which I did after 2 weeks), its really easy to start smoking a lot again.

A lot of it also has to do with how much you smoke in "one sitting" when you go back to smoking. If you don't get completely stoned out of your mind the times you do smoke, its easier to control how much you smoke. The trick is just remember not to get... well, completely plastered , but we often end up forgetting to do so. hehe

By the way, I'm a noob, and I just wanna keep saying that this is an amazing website!

      Hey 42,
I agree with you totally man .... I think were on the same road at the moment ,

It helps so much to say (or type) What youre thinking ... because you keep thinking it but you dont quite beleive yourself .... and when you say it , you know its true and you can Act upon it
( if that makes any sense at all)

Im finding everyday is getting easier ... i restrict myself to 3 joints in the evening only
