      Afternoon Naps ~ R.E.M?

It’s often advised that one should attempt to induce a lucid dream during an afternoon nap. Furthermore, it is apparent that the most vivid dreams occur during R.E.M. Thus, I assume that R.E.M cycles often occur during afternoon naps.

If this is so, then my question is: Why do we have a R.E.M cycle during the afternoon?

A question that has plagued my mind for a while. I believe that it follows the same principals of a WILD, or maybe your mind is already in the 'active' state, so it stays in it when you go to sleep.

I know that I watched someone nap and they were not in REM when I woke them up, they said I wke them from a dream. It was strange.

This Isn't what you're asking, but, I think that waking up from falling asleep counts too, then falling back asleep during the day right? As you can see from my signature, that's how I get most of mine.
If you see a strange typo in my post, blame my iPad for that.

Thanks. However, this then raises another question. Afternoon naps are composed of NREM sleep. Moreover, lucid/vivid dreams often occur during this period. So why does it feel, at least, that such dreams occur more often in naps than the NREM period encountered during typical sleeping arrangements?

My only assumption would be that if you were to sleep in the evening, and then wake yourself after one hour, that you would find similar results to afternoon naps. That is to say, that we may only think we don't dream vividly in the initial NREM period because upon awakening--7-8 hours later--such a vivid dream has been reduced to mere remnants, and fragmented by the latter dreams of the night. What do you think?

Nonetheless, if this diagram is correct, then it may explain it:

      Do you mean over-sleeping?

Sorta. Which is why it only happens on weekends. Usually not too late. Just, like, 15 min. in between waking up to falling asleep
