      Opposite of Lucid

Ok, so last night, I had two vivid dreams, and woke up at about 2:30am, went the the restroom, settled back down in bed, and reapeated to myself, "I am going to go right back to dreaming, and be lucid. I will be aware that it's a dream. I will be aware that it's a dream" And do you know what happened??? I started to dream that I was dreaming, and in the dream's dream, I hurt one of my dogs. Then when I woke up from the dream in the dream, my poor pup was still hurt. it felt aweful. I couldn't understand how she could still be hurt, if it was jus a dream. Then when I woke up for real this morning, it took me a minute to realize the whole thing was a dream. For a sec I still thought my poochie was hurt until I looked over at her. Now shouldn't I have recognized that as soon as it happened, and become lucid??? It seems like it was the exact opposite. I believed it so much, and felt emotional pain. That really sucks!!! Aaaaahhhhh!!!

I've had a few dreams that were vivid enough to the point of waking up, and despite knowing in the back of my head that it was just a dream, because I mean... obviously I just woke up from it, I still checked to see if what happened had any physical result. They just felt that ... lucid? haha, well obviously not, but vivid isn't a strong enough word at that point.

Sounds a lot like your mind tricked you simply with the fact that you woke up from a dream in your dream. Therefore no triggers went off to say that you were still dreaming, and that the original dream was just another state of your sub conscious.

I need to learn more about this...

It's an interesting phenomenon called 'False Awakening' or FA for short
There should be a lot of previous topics on it, if you do a search
They can be used as dream signs - that can be used to become lucid

It can get pretty freaky too - waking up from a dream and then waking up into yet another dream... and then only really waking up
In fact, there was a guy on dreamlucidity.com (I think), who was an experienced LDer
He went to sleep, dreamt of some people at his place (not lucid at all)... he went upstairs, and did a WILD
He had a fully lucid dream, then woke up into the *previous* dream about his house and the people.
He finished the normal dream, as usual, and then woke up to realise what just happened!

Quite amazing thing really, the way dreams can be 'nested' inside each other...

Oh man. That's happened quite a few times for me before. Not just with false awakenings, but doing something bad in a dream and waking up and the outcome of whatever I did is still there. And then waking up again.. haha sometimes it takes me 10 minutes after really waking up to realize that I had dreamed something and that it wasn't real.

In the 'waking life' FA's are displayed really well. The main character seems to not be able to 'really' wake up, and gets sick of being in the dreams i think.

Indeed...only that in Waking life they sort of present us with the posibility of him being dead and therefore being an inhabitant of the dream world for eternity...

Anyway, yeah, FA can be pretty intense, mostly if they are vivid enough to not let you understand that you are still dreaming...
      If I hadn't made me
I'd be more inclined to bow
Powers that be would have swallowed me up
But that's more than I can allow...

wouldn't the opposite of lucid be unconscious...or something

Like everyone described...you had a FA...they are annoying, but sometimes fun...i have spoken to kids who have had like 6 in ONE dream...crazyness...confusion...

If you have a sense of caring for others, you will manifest a kind of inner strength in spite of your own difficulties and problems. With this strength, your own problems will seem less significant and bothersome to you. By going beyond your own problems and taking care of others, you gain inner strength, self-confidence, courage, and a greater sense of calm.Dalai Lama

      Nope.
IMHO, lucidity isn't a black or white thing.
You're splitting your consciousness - sparking some conscious and logical areas of the brain, but leaving some of it dormant.
      Lucidity is a gray thing

What I meant by opposite, lowercase society .... When your lucid, you have some amount of control, and awareness. In this dream with the FA, it was like the dream had control of me, and I believed anything it showed. It seemed like I went to sleep with the intent of controlling the dream, but instead, the opposite happened, and it controlled me.

I'd be tempted to call that 'reality'
Nah... thats not true, but it feels good to say it...

I have also had dreams like this. I think False Awakenings are kinda cool actually. But sometimes it can be scary to wake up and not know if what you dreamt is reality or not.

I'd be tempted to call that 'reality' *

      Heh,
Ive not actually had a FA , but this reminds me of my days of taking psychedelics .... Which could be described as abit like a lucid dream ... but you are actually awake.
i often found i was in a trip inside a trip inside a trip , just like a dream within a dream within a dream ..... different levels of your subconcious.
Yes, there are two paths you can go by, but in the long run
There's still time to change the road you're on.
