      spreading the word, tv ads...

heya all, i havent been around for the past few days, but i am back and now i have an idea.

we could whip together a donation system to gather enough money to advertise LDing, this will cost alot, but with luck we will be able to get it on the air at about 6 PM in some big us city

      any ideas?

      hmm

Well, i think it would be hard to choose a City to put the add in, and what would it say?

      First,
There are people here from many different countries, why the U.S.

      And,
What would the add say? how could you word a tv add to get the masses interested in lucid dreaming if some movies havent already. I just saw "Waking Life" (awesome i might add) and if that movie didnt get a whole bunch of people going (the Matrix Trilogy also) Than how will a Television add do it?

      Finally,
How would we collect donations for a T.V. add? maybe PayPal? but who would collect the donations, and how would we choose who does it?

sorry if i shot it down too quickly, it's a good idea, i just dont see how it could work out and make EVERYONE happy.

Lord Soth, I find it exhilerating to have another member with the idea of getting the word out. I have been an advocate of this since I have joined. I have a few topics on this idea, not necisarilly television, but other ideas. I have found that there is not a lot of interest among the members to get the word out. They feel a sense of being special and unique By bringing this to the masses, would nullify that to them.

Should we get the word out?

Howetzer. I like that idea. The hotel one. But they obviously wouldn't have time to read it all.. do you think they'd most likely just not bother reading it? Perhaps some people might read some, you never know. Perhaps members at DV could whip together a small book, more introductory... and it could include some basic info and tutorials. We could use what's on the site already, and perhaps touch it up and edit. Then with that you could use that donation paypall thing, or perhaps find another way of getting it published. Or come up with some agreement with some hotel chains, or oh.. here's an idea.

What about a "while you're away, lucid dreaming guide". I read a topic before about how people find lucid dreaming much easier while vacationing... You know those 'lonely planet' guide books... Perhaps a similar little pocket book could be made to get people interested in lucid dreaming. It could be put in airport giftshops and such. Just an idea... I know it's something you totally don't see there, so it might be interesting, grab peoples attention.

Ideas ideas, don't rip them to shreds just yet, obviously I could find many ways that these ideas are impracticle... but toy with them and let them evolve. Howbout finding ways they WOULD work?

      Cheers,
      Dylan

There's only one solution, one of us has to get famous and then spread the word!

      I vote me.

I've been leaving small messages here and there with our URL. I'm still thinking seriously about having a set of business cards printed up. You know to leave in fishbowls at resturants and also to leave in strategic places

*ding* light goes on, I'm going to ask the art team to come up with some ideas!

That's a good idea. I've done that with a variety of things, but this would be the most constructive.....If the art team does go along and design a business card, they should put it on the site the others on here can print it out and do the same.

A TV ad is just waaaaaaaay too expensive. I mean, Firefox is making an advert in the New York Times (or whatever it's called), and they've got at least a million people that know about it, but they're just about making it. Now a forum that's got like 50,000 that know about it (at the best, i guess), with about 100 that might donate...Not gonna get there, ever. =/

I really like the business card idea and the hotel/ "while you're away, lucid dreaming guide" idea thing. Something as simple as picking a day and each member handing out flyers in their home town would be very affective I think. Alot of people just need to be introduced to the fact that lucid dreaming exists!

At this point in time I believe that unless one of you is independently wealthy and can fling money around... this TV add is too expensive like so many of you have already said. I must say it's a cool Idea and a commercial around lucid dreaming could be so cool! The possibilities and our artistic talent on this forum would make for a great commercial!!

Also someone on in this forum mention a website where you can get things published.
I have it written down somewhere.

Seeker - check this site for free business cards

      http://www.vistaprint.co.uk/vp/ns/default....+4%3A53%3A54+PM

I got some done by these people and they're good quality card + print. The only catch is that they unobtrusively say 'printed for free by vistaprint' on the back, no biggie for most uses.

I agree the TV ad idea would probably be prohibitavely expensive but there are plenty of cheaper sources of publicity, and I have often thought a good opportunity is being missed by not generating any money from the traffic here. In this instance the cash could be used to fund and promote the site and/or make a profit for the people who run the site (Such as yourself, Seeker).

I don't want to appear like one of those 'internet marketing guru' types so I wont go on about it, but send me an email if you want some info on how it could be done.

it's not a referal, it's that long because (I believe) it's an ASP page setting a cookie.

why should we spread the word about LDing? no offence but look at it this way... how is mre likely to get to get exicetied about have compltet and total control? Kids. Who whould want to know how to lucid dream without any work and without and experiacne? Kids. Now im not saying all kids are like this my being only but a teen but also being a empath i KNOW how most kids think. which scares me. and now i dont like kids. and i am a kid. thats just sad... any ways well i have an idea on how to spread LDing.... without using money
and we can even hold classes for people every where and it wont cost a penny. hmm.... if any kids want ot know more about my idea plz message me

i know, but smaller towns (like the one i live in) should cost way less than the big metropolises you may be thinking of.
yea, one of you needs to get famous.... then sponsor a lucid dreaming add over the superbowl halftime show

lol, interesting idea. Those of you who go to school that have lockers, you could slip business cards into them when you are alone in the hallway.... giving this website, and a brief description.... i wonder how the poor student body would react...

a group of people could go so far as to write another Lucid dreaming book. Stephen laberge really has a monopoly, but will that stop us?

What about bookmarks? Could use the same sort of idea as a business card... except people would have a use for them. Useful business cards! I'm not sure where you'd be able to distribute them though...

      >Cool idea though.

You can get on an obscure sky channel for half an hour for about £1000 these days (my bro works for a sky channel comp)

Does anybody have a short animation about LDing? Maybe I could sort something - or at least try. I'll send my bro an e-mail now.

I think the business card idea is good though. What about a poster we could print off too - there's some good artists on DVs I'm sure one of them could knock one up. Then we could go put them up in local notice boards and stuff.

there are ways to get free air time... just gather a couple of thousands lucid dreamers, let them walk naked down the streets of new york, carrying banners and signs with Lucid Dreaming written on them and in the front is of course seeker, leading the whole bunch then they send a reporter to do a interview with him. if we're lucky we get 30 secs to really say our message

      Hi

I would love to see all a small fold out info pamphlet and business card for the site attached to an enormous amount of balloons and released. You could do it simultaneously in different cities and countries. The people who are actually curious enough to read the balloon-messages are probably just the type to be interested in LD.

      Jehova's Witnesses

We could pull a Jahova's Witness on everyone in the world! (one came to my house today while i was at lunch, thank God *hehe*). Go door to door giving out fliers and buisness cards. Instead of dressing like Jahova's Witnesses tho, we'd have to wear sleeping clothes. Pajama's or Night Gowns. (just kidding)

i'm passing the world around in my school to people that i think would enjoy it. Actually i got a new member to join, he's a senior in my school. Spaceistheplace, is his member name. He's a cool guy. He was the one that lent me Waking Life. Altho he didnt know much about lucid dreaming. Be nice to him or i'll invade your dreams and make you pee your self!!!! haha

I say the buisness card thing and pamphlet ideas are great!

I also like the naked mob thing!!!
