      Lucid dreaming ethics

Last night, I had a dream where at a point, I was blatently in control. What do you guys feel about what's right and wrong in dreaming. Should anything go? Murder, espionage, sex, whatever...

it's all in your head. (maybe not totally, but we're discussing it. for now, it's better to just go with that.) controled thoughts. if you feel thinking about murder / sex / whatever is wrong, then yes, it's wrong. otherwise, yes, anything goes.

i think its all fine as long as you acknowledge that its wrong. and you acknowledge that you're dreaming.

a couple weeks ago i had a dream where me and my friends were running around beating up old people. then my friend grabbed a guy at a gas station in a full nelson while i poured gas all over him... then i threw a match on him but he wouldn't light... wow im pretty fucked up. -- i think this dream stemmed from A Clockwork Orange and Reservoir Dogs -- i watched both these movies in the same week. in one they beat up an old bum and in the other a cop gets gas poured all over him but never set on fire.

Personally, I say anything goes in a dream. If you think you are doing something wrong, you can always just change your mind and do something better. Don't beat yourself up later for something you regret doing, learn from your mistakes and move on.

There was a thread similar to this, where we discussed sex. If you have sex with someone in a dream, should you ask first or just do it. In other words, is the sex really consentual? People posted that they feel better asking first, less guilt.

I believe in the two realities theory and I think we should respect the other world jsut as much as we should this. So I would never do things such as murder or the like. Besides I couldt even do it even if I wanted to.
For instance I dont even want sex with somebody I dont love, I dont like it, I just dont enjoy it. I dont see why a person would have the desire to kill a person anyway, its sick. Here or there is the same to me. I dont know how many people over here actually believe in two realities but those who dont call me a sissy if you must but I respect what is out there.

I also say, if you go and kill people in your dreams(lets say you think its all in your head) this means you would like to kill people in real life to. But you dont do it because of the consequenses..and according to you there are no consequenses over there..so..you go on a killing spree..

thats one theory. but in my dreams (not lucid, yet) my sences are dulled. i don't feel remorse when i kill a guy. when im having sex i don't ask, but i also don't force it.

Well, you are not even lucid yet so you dont even control your actions directly. Mabey once you become lucid or possibly come in touch with lies in the other reality you'll think diffirently, you'll see..just depends on how deep you will go

I never feel the need to kill anyone in a lucid dream, I just love everyone. The more I can visit these people, the better it is...

Now that you are lucid, you are morally responsible for what you do in your dreams. Let your concious dictate what you feel is appropriate. It is true that you will never be caught of prosecuted for any actions you commit, ...BUT... you still have to live with yourself when you wake up!

for some people its all just in their heads... I dont feel that way.

Even if it is, I try to do the right things in both worlds, I am not repressed or anything. Honor is just important to me and I try to hold true to it here and in dream.

Honor is very important to me as well. For example, if you are one day in a fight in your dreams or in real life even and in the end you dominate your opponent and they beg for mercy or something, it is the honorable thing to do to give it to them i believe, but it is not honourable to kill them or humiliate them, That would make me feel rotten anyway. Thats the sort of thing that makes honor important to me here and in the dream world. Empathy is also important. Putting yourself in others shoes can be a good thing too. Treating others how you would like to be treated.

      Well thats what i believe...

Not bein an ass or anything... I just noticed, this happens alot when I speak of honor.

How come everyone brings up battles and fights when honor is spoken of?

Not me! I have yet to fight. My personal sense of honor is in the way I treat and respect others. (you want to fight about it? )

I dont really think of fighting either... I think there is nothing honarable about a fight anyway, unless you are defending your loved ones.

For me honor is more of self respect, to be yourself, and know what you stand for and defend that. Do realise yourself, self realisation, self acceptance. To live by the values that are important to you, and do not let the opinion of others overwhelm you so that you stray away from the right path.

Also to feel apreciated by others because you do good, a mere honestly meant thank,a feeling of apreciation and respect, that is worth so much more then any amount of money or material reward, that to is honor, as is being selfless and sacrificing yourself for others

I have to say I totally agree. To me, dreaming is evidence of what is going on in our heart (mind and soul). I think that it is inevitable that we as imperfect beings would have murderous, sexual, brutal, (etc.) dreams at times. However...if we are lucid, and thus in control of our "actions" or will during sleep, I believe there will still be real consequences for the decisions we make albeit somewhere down the line. I believe that as I'm aware during most of my dreams, and as lucid dreaming is a gift, I should make the most of it to strive for mental and spiritual improvement (along with a fervent desire for guidance from God). If this sounds out there, I would at least suggest doing something better with your LD time than shooting, stabbing, beating, bombing, or shagging someone else.

Hmmm. I haven't but that still brings up a good point...
I guess I consider stuff like movies, video games etc. to be unreality and done for the sake of entertainment, thus not the same as making a "conscious" decision during a lucid dream to kill or maim, or have sex... Those things (video games etc.) are like virtual reality whereas lucid dreams are more like "alternate" reality. I'm not saying they are "real" -but I do believe they can indicate things about your personality that you should seek to improve or at least contemplate and learn from.

i'm just saying, acknowledge that it's a dream. i don't think it's necessarily a window into your soul if you're doing it for entertainment purposes. -- personally i wouldn't get to fucked up, but i don't think you're a bad person by any measure if you want to have fun in your dreams. -- just last night i had a dream where i was a pirate. we (fellow pirates) would board ships kill everyone and run back to our ship. then repeat doing that, if i was lucid i know i would have enjoyed myself more. and i wouldn't feel regret because i know it was just a dream, those people aren’t real. -- it really depends on the nature of the dream, some things i just won't have, but killing is ok in my book, maybe that’s just the video game desensitization talking but whateva.

      I enjoy transcending limitations...

      [edit]

...in fact, the very first thing I did the first time I had a "real" lucid dream was kill the guy I was standing next to. Not because I go all day wanting to kill people, but just to get over that pointless hang-up then and there and give myself over to the fact that what was happening wasn't real.

Well as its been discussed I don't truely take pride into killing someone in a dream just because I know I can do it, but if you considered doing it and go through with it just make sure you bring that person back to life. Its the only right thing left to do.

it might just all come down to the ethics you set upon yourself; boundaries if you will.
