Wow, nine years is a while to go without having a lucid. But there are some things to consider. For one, it very may well be that you just haven't tried the right techique and not that you are incapable of luciding. Secondly, you may have had a lucid and not remembered it! Hows your dream recall? Pushing past your logging problems and consistently keeping a dream journal anyway sure would help improve that recall.

Personally, I think that we have two dream mind-sets. One is this go with the flow attitude- like watching a movie almost or following a script- where you aren't really making choices. The other is a more conciouss mind-set. You are aware, you are yourself. The nature of lucid induction lies in breaking the first mind-set in my opinion.

I only bring this up because it seems as if your problem would be explained by this theory and if you are interested I go into it in greater detail and describe a type of reality check designed to solve your very problem. It's right here if you want to read it.

Other than that, I don't know what to say except try to encourage you to keep trying as long as you want to be lucid- I see no reason why one person could become lucid and another person couldn't. And hey, once you make it through your first LD you will have the benefit of overcoming great obstacles getting your lucids and so you will be able to better help people with similar problems.

I hope I helped.
