      Is dreaming genetic?

Is the ability to dream a genetic trait, or is it only found in the individual?

Because my mom says she used to study for tests in her dreams, and that it actually worked. But she didn't know what lucid dreaming was at the time, but she still DILDed all the time.

Ditto. Everyone dreams. It's the lack of dream recall that makes people think they don't.

It is true that everyone dreams. I do believe there is some sort of genetic involvement though. It might have to do with natural ability for dream recall and people who naturally become lucid. For example. My mom doesn't remember any of her dreams and hasn't to my knowledge ever had a lucid dream. My dad on the other had has very good recall and has occasionally mentioned a dream where he knew he was dreaming. My sister and I both have excellent recall. I have also had quite a bit of lucid dreams before i even knew what they were. So I believe that genetics may play some sort of role in it some where.

Everyone dreams. I've never heard of any evidence that 'natural' lucid dreaming is genetic, though.

My parents have terrible recall and never lucid, the same went for me before I started a journal, but who's to say?

I was just speculating. I don't really have any solid evidence except for my own potentially flawed observations. So really, who knows?

No it's a skill that can be learned by everyone.
