      I am frustrated also!

Hi… I had my first intentional lucid dream 8/24… The first time I tried, and I haven’t been able to do it again… I ask my self all day "if I am dreaming" and it is like it is have the opposite affect… I ordered a copy of {Exploring the World of Lucid Dreaming} but it hasn’t arrived yet… Anybody got any ideas here? … Thanks in advance… Noel

I had my first intentional around early July, had about 3 in the 2 weeks after that, and then didn't have one until this morning, so basically I had no lucids for about 32 days. Don't get discouraged, they will come back to you
Try a WBTB if you're desperate, they're supposed to help a lot.

Hello to you I recommend looking for the tutorials section first.

Here are the acronyms used in DV. WBTB is found there too. In short, you wake up, stay up for a while and go back to sleep.

      Have fun in DV!
Jujutsu is the gentle art. It's the art where a small man is going to prove to you, no matter how strong you are, no matter how mad you get, that you're going to have to accept defeat. That's what jujutsu is.

Hi Noel, sorry I have taken so long to get back to you from your other thread. There is some speculation that drinking apple juice before bed gives you more vivid dreams. I have experienced some evidence supporting this but I'm not 100% convinced as yet.

I agree you should read the tutorials. Don't worry about not having had a second LD yet. Most experienced LDers seem to only average one or two LDs a week. Some people manage more, others a lot less. You'll definitely have another one. It could be tonight or it could be in a month's time. You just never know with this hobby.

The main techniques to be doing are reality testing, keeping a dream journal and WBTB.

You say you ask yourself throughout the day if you are dreaming? What test are you performing when you do this?

The book will help you immensely btw.

Keep us posted on your progress.

I know when I am awake because I have chronic back pain, I do take three medications for it but surprisingly enough I do have pretty good dream recall... I haven't started the journal yet; I keep forgetting to ask my wife for her recorder... I figure I will have to go with the recorder because if I have to write something down it will probably wake me up... Thanks for all the advice... Noel

You shouldn't assume you're awake just because of the pain; pain in dreams can be as vivid and realistic as in the waking world, so it's best to do a reality check such as the nose plug RC or trying to poke your finger through your palm.

Also, here is a thread which is really helpful if you're still having problems: Reality Checks: You're Doing it Wrong

How would you be able to tell the difference between lucid dreaming and astral traveling?

I had two lucid dreams today!

Well I drank some apple juice right before I took my nap today and darn if I didn’t have two lucid dreams… The problem I had, as soon as I realized I was in a dream I would wake up… I think it is a left over habit I had when I was a kid and realized I was having a nightmare… I was good at waking myself up when I was in a nightmare… Boy I had forgotten about that… I haven’t had a nightmare since I was a kid… Has any body else had this problem?
