      The Jumpspin technique

Anyone able to wake up from a dream at will? When I was younger I used to lie down close my eyes before quiclky raising my upper body. Now I do what I call the jump spin technique. Jump while closing your eyes and spin, then bam you wake up. It works everytime. I've had a couple of false awakenings though and sometimes it can be a real struggle to open your eyes, as your whole body feels paralysed. Comes in pretty handy when you're having a nightmare.

Funny, I use almost exactly the technique you describe for teleportation purposes. Spinning as a way to change the dream scene has been around for a while and was published in EWLD way back when. Jumping before spinning for some reason makes this work even better for me. (Why wake yourself up when you can have so much more fun in the dream? Turn the nightmare into something more pleasant...)
