      Reality Checks Can Suck My

I've never actually done a reality check in a dream before, I just become lucid and know it's a dream.

So I finally tried one last night, even though I knew I was dreaming, and they all passed. My finger couldn't go through my hand, I couldn't breathe...

The first part is like me, I don't really think I have ever done a reality check then become lucid, I always just knew. But for your reality checks passing the finger through palm one is easy to explain, you just expected it to not work, but for you plugging your nose and being able to not breath doesn't make much sense. Are you sure you tried to breath? Or was your nose stuffed because those are the only two things that can really explain why that RC passed.

      the breathing part was confusing.

for the reality check, if i imagined my finger on the other side, then i would have two images of fingers that would go there - but by that time i would know i was dreaming.

what i'm saying is they don't seem to be useful for me.

Actually preforming the reality check may not be useful for you, but the point in doing an RC is to get you thinking about reality, to get you questioning whether or not you are awake. Thinking about reality checking should make you more aware about reality more of the time. The more aware you are the easier is should be to become lucid.

If you didn't think they would pass, then they won't. Assurance is key.

When you reality check, don't just stop there. Keep in mind that even if they pass (not dreaming), it could still be a dream (as in your case). So, when you RC, start thinking about how you got there, when you last went to bed, what the day is, what you're doing, etc. Although, it seems you don't even need to RC.

btw I was expecting it to work.

It's not that directly "you think it's going to happen it will".

I got it to work if I set my mind to it, but not fully, I had to project an image of my finger on the other side of my hand, like when you unfocus your eyes and can "see through" things.
