      Sweet, sweet success!

Last night I had what I would consider my first "real" lucid dream. (Prior to this, the few times I became lucid, I grew too excited and woke immediately.) I was going along having a typical dream when I realized my behavior was aberrant to the way I normally act in the waking world. So I thought to myself, I'd better do a reality check.

I looked down at my hand to count my fingers, and lo and behold, I had too many! Something like seven fingers sprouted out of my hand. There seemed to be an extra pink and ring finger jutting out the side. My hand seemed to be slightly out of focus, though, almost as if I were seeing double vision, though the rest of the dream was quite clear.

Upon seeing my extra appendages, I thought, "Yes!! I'm dreaming!" And though I was quite excited, fortunately this time I didn't awaken immediately. When I realized I was dreaming, though, it was as if I became fully conscious. Everything seemed to be more real and I felt whole. It was an awesome feeling. I knew that the whole world had opened up to me, and literally anything was possible. The feeling of power and possibility was intoxicating. I've never known anything else like it.

My other dream characters forgotten, I turned away and decided to try summoning someone for my first experiment. I called his name a couple of times, but my voice sounded distant and echoey. It was like I was hearing my actual body speaking, only the sound came throw dimmed into my dream consciousness. This puzzled me, and I thought that my body was actually speaking as I spoke in the dream. Feeling disconcerted, I unfortunately woke out of my dream.

Once awake, I could tell that my mouth hadn't been open in hours (you know the feeling). Also, I recalled reading somewhere on these forums that you're in sleep paralysis while dreaming and felt silly for not realizing this in my dream. Nevertheless, I was happy to have had the experience and know there will be plenty of opportunities in the future.

Just in case of a false awakening, I did another reality check and jotted a few crucial points of my dream down for later.

Along with this, though, I have a question. Do any of you know why my voice sounded so strange in the dream? It was literally as though I were hearing it from a distance, and it reverberated strangely. I could feel the vibrations of the sound in my throat as I spoke, as in waking life, but the disjointed sound was disconcerting and jolted me back to consciousness! Not cool!

Well, Congrats on the first "real" lucid Wizard! It's great huh? In reference to hearing your voice; you could have been dreaming that you heard yourself through the dream, or you could have been actually talking. When we sleep we can speak (I'm sure you've heard of sleep-talking), and if you are consious enough, you can even hear yourself. However, this form of speech is usually pretty blurred, as you aren't fully, consiously speaking. It may sound distant because you're still sleeping.

Well, crap! I don't want to sleep talk. To my knowledge, I've never had a problem with that before, but then I guess I wouldn't really know, now would I?

For most people (even "sleep talkers"), it isn't a very common occurence. You most likely won't sleep talk very often (especially if it's never happened before).

yeah I had, and still have the apprehension that my dream vocalizations might transmute themselves into RL, however this has not as of yet occurred thank heavens.

Thanks, guys. Unfortunately I haven't had any lucids since then, so I don't know if that sort of thing will be normal for me. Hopefully not, but practice makes perfect. Perhaps I was too close to consciousness or something.
