Smile The Secret and Lucid Dreaming

Has anyone else noticed how similar the basic principles are?

"The Secret teaches us that we create our lives, with every thought every minute of every day."
"You are a magnet attracting to you all things, via the signal you are emitting through your thoughts and feelings."
      http://www.thesecret.tv/living-the-secret.html

Think about these two quotes, they can be applied to Lucid dreaming, and apparently to your waking life aswell.

I follow the secret myself, mostly cause it keeps me thinking positive (to attract positive things). The more you read through it the more links you can see between the two. Possibly it was created from the lucid dreaming concept...
(\_/) Just because the voices aren't real....
      (O.o)
(> <) ....doesnt mean they dont have good ideas:

I've never heard of the Secret, to be honest. They sure appear similar when put that way, though!

Learn CBT. It'll do you more good and has science to back it up.

I follow the secret as well, and yes, I would say that dream control requires you to think in the same way.

But I think you could use the secret to get lucid dreams too (I have never tried because I am afraid of failure, and the fact I doubt myself will in fact lead to failure.)

And TWS, don't mock people's beliefs and ways of living.

And besides that, even if the secret were to not work for physical things, it most definitely works for mental things.

i.e. You could use the secret to get money directly(like winning the lottery).
Or, you could use the secret to get a good job.

That first one is physical, and even if that doesn't work, the second one is mental, and will work (or in words you will understand, have more chance of working)

And, besides that, The secret also gives hope, which is sometimes all a person needs to lead a good life.

I haven't. I'm guessing you're about to go down the old "If you haven't seen/read it you can't comment" route.

I like to do a little research online before I purchase anything. I was interested in The Secret, by my research has shown me that The Secret isn't something for me. When I see Richard Dawkins and Stephen Hawkings endorsing The Secret I'm sure I'll reconsider my position.

Just a point of interest: Am I to assume that 11 million German Jews, Slavs, Homosexuals...etc were just neggie buggers?

The most famous and successful people have used the secret. Einstein used it, I think Newton did too. And Bill Gates did as well(his story is quite interesting actually).
There were so many people who knew about the secret and used it to become rich/famous/successful.

I suppose you have to find the balance between positivity and negativity that is right for you. Too much positivity and I hear a voice yelling, "Get real!" What are your views on Anthony Robins, incidentally?

I didn't know what a "neggie bugger" is, but I do now, thanks to Urban Dictionary.

C'mon guys, I thought we were trying to get away from new age. Lucid dreaming already has a bad enough reputation thanks to this "magical" way of thinking.

Edit: I feel like arguing now, and didn't want to make a second post.

Power of Attraction: using your feelings to influence real world events through magnetic vibrations.
Lucid Dreaming expectations: Using your feelings to influence your imagination.

This former is a bunch of science-y words thrown together by the delusional to bamboozle the spiritual populace.
The later is scientifically proven, logical, and is backed by the learned.

the secret is the law of attraction and ive uesd it a lot for my lucid dreaming. during the day ill tell myself things like "i cant wait to have a lucid dream tonight" "I lucid dream all the time" "I am the master of lucid dreaming" just positive things like that, and on days that i do that i usually have a lucid dream that night

Yes, this is exactly how you would use the secret to lucid dream. There is more to it, like the way you are feeling, as well as the words themselves.

I know what you mean by the way you feel, usually when i say those phrases i get really excited and feel really happy and get chills down my back.

I watched the movie The Secret, and was a little disappointed because it gave so little specific info. Not to mention it was mostly just a bunch of people telling how they used it for material gain, but not telling how they used it. What a rip.

Didn't like it because it implies the secret is something you have to learn to use, rather than the truth that it is something you use subconsciously all the time. That movie only portrays the secret from a merchant mindset, "how can I profit from this?". It completely ignores the bigger issues of personal responsibility, how the individual is responsible for a lot of the shitty things that happen around them throughout their lives.

I happen to think the secret and dream control are one and the same. In fact I can explain every type of magic known to man in theory according to my rules of dream control (http://dreamviews.com/community/show...&postcount=281)

I've tried to explain some of the specifics the secret left out in this thread http://dreamviews.com/community/showthread.php?t=57283. Not everyone agrees, but if you truly understand how to control you dreams, I don't see how it's possible to miss the similar applications to reality.

Actually Cusp, i think it says in the film, and the book, and a lot of other books, that you are always using the secret, even if you don't know about the secret. It says that every little thought plays a part in what will happen.

      Smile Be happy

Hey guys, thanks for your comments (both for and against).

I was trying to focus more on the links I could see between the two, rather then preaching the way of the secret.
I gave a short description simply to answer any questions of anyone who hadn't heard of it.
I use it personally for the positive thinking aspect and I like the concept that life can be more like lucid dreaming than we thought.

I believe the way you think influences your dreams and vise versa.
So for me it's a win win.

Eh, no doubt Urban Dictionary has confused you. (Although I can't find an entry for it...)

I had assumed that was commonly known slang, everyone I speak with knows what it means; It's just an informal term for 'negative person'.

This was in reference to the Secret's main concept - negative things happen to negative people. I was critizing this point by showing that bad things happen to positive and negative people alike.
