Intimidated by my own lucid dream

I wasn't sure whether or not to post this in Lucid Experiences but since I'm asking a question, I thought I'd post here.

A little background for better understanding: I'm frightened by big open spaces. I don't mean empty parking lots, I'm talking about the ocean, outter-space, etc. I've had dreams about being in a pool and looking down and seeing a big white whale. So I would jump out before something like that could get me.

The dream: This dream was long and I had already been lucid for a while. Near the end, I remembered my goal to fly up into the clouds and relax while looking at the moon close up.

Well I over-achieved that goal and flew pass the clouds and into outter-space and I was now looking down at the moon which was really beautiful. I flew around and passed by some other strange looking planets and galaxies. I wasn't freaking out too much and just enjoyed the scenery.

I eventually woke up but I realized I was in outter-space in my mind and the idea of it kind of gave me a thought that lucid dreaming may be too much for me to handle. Well thankfully I snapped out of that like 5 mins. later and started wanting them again.

Well I'm wondering if anyone else has any experiences like this? Sorry for all the reading but it would be nice to know that I'm not alone.

first of all, know that nothing in a lucid dream can physically hurt you. You will always wake up fine.
You sound like you need to improve your dream control, so you can put yourself in a more comfortable setting, no big open spaces.

      Hmm.

To the contrary, I think if you feel confident enough with your dream control abilities, I would encourage you to go for those open spaces. You may be surprised at how much your lucid dream habits influence your waking reality. If you learn to feel comfortable in big open spaces in dreams, the thought of them in waking reality will not be so extreme an experience for you.

Well I was fine with control and the scenery of my dreams where so damn amazing that it kind of took my mind off the fact that I was in a big open space.

I'm never in a situation in real life where I'm in too big of an open space. It's just the idea of being sort of a "spec" inside and infinite world. Like being a small fish in an ocean filled with sharks and killer whales and such and sometimes if I see something on t.v. that shows outter-space I think about comparing my size against the universe and then the idea of if I was an astronaut, what if I got lost.

The feeling is kind of difficult for me to explain but I tried. I did have control over my dream and it was a really good, interesting, dream because during it I didn't have these feelings. I only realized all this sometime after I woke up.

Maybe I'll take your advice Rainman and just go for it. Maybe I'll create a dream where I am in the middle of the ocean filled with whales and sharks and make sure I'm lucid so that I know I can over-power those intimidating creatures.

      Thanks everyone

I am also scared of big space in my dreams. Outer space is the worst for me. I am trying to get to the moon but I can't bare the thought of floating in nothingness. My alternative is to get in a rocket ship or some sort of vehicle, rather than fly.

I had a dream where I got injected with an injection 3 times. It didn't hurt but I could feel the needle go in. This scared the crap out of me and I didn't want to go to sleep for the rest of that night.
The next morning I woke up and thought about it. By the end of the day I was ready to return to my dreams and kick some ass (although I already obliterated the people who injected me with a nuclear bomb, who were represented by my parents )

Sounds like we may be on the same page. I never actually wanted to float in space, I just wanted to ride a stupid cloud.

I remember watching Cast Away and the part after you know... "WILSON!", he's just floating on a bunch of sticks tied together on the ocean where below could be some big creature looking for a snack.

The thought is terrifying, I know.

You posted you saw a whale in a pool? That scares me too. If I dreamed about that I'd be sure to have trouble getting out of the pool and would probably keep slipping back in.

      this dream spooked me

This kinda reminds of a non lucid dream i had when i was learning about this new gift, and it really freaked me out.

My wife and a friend are bringing me to a person who advertised he wanted to meet people that could fly,or that have special talents. I find myself in a motel parking lot tied at the waist and floating like a balloon. people are pointing at me and freaking out im kinda freaked myself.

Then i find myself in this room at a desk facing 2 men,1 of wich im feeling is a man of god or something, there in the midst of explaining this gift to me when i start getting this evil feeling,

i litterally feel a breath on my neck and hear a low guttural growl then i feel teeth like a dogs on my neck,1 of these fellows sitting across from me looks terrified he stands up to push me back but this evil face came out of wall behind him and pulls him back .

i felt the teeth on my neck again and hear the growl then i wake up.

it took me a good while to tune that out ,i didnt even want to go back to sleep,i never had control and was just along for the ride but wow.

now when bad things happen i just wake up laughing telling myself it was just a dream...

ps ...my next dream that night was sponges by the sink that turned into little sponge bunnies when i poked them tey opened there eyes and were alive...lol that was much better
fly[/] go into space[/] land on the moon[ ] (couldnt find it) land on pyramids[/] go underwater[/]
      meet my wife[ ]

when the full realization that I am dreaming washes

over me its like the gift of a superpower or a new world where anything is possible
