      10% Of your Brain??

I'm Not not actually sure what percentage of our brains we use. wether it is 10 % or what ever, but it seems to be most agree it is a very small amount compared to its size. Nature does not have things without a reason. Hence my question. What are be going to do with all this brain? When we Lucid dream, we bring the concious mind into the sub concious. Is there room for the possibility of conciously tapping into your subconcious while you are awake, bringing the subconcious alive into the waking or concious realm?

I had read somewhere that this was a lie... That supposedly we do use all or close all of our brain. I don't know what to believe...

I heard that we use 10% of our brain to. I find that kinda hard to believe. How the hell would scientists know this anyway?

I think they use some kind of test where they make someone do stuff and register the amount of bloodflow to certain areas of the brain.

10% does seem an awfully small amount though.....

this is based on some theory that i've heard about:
in ancient Oriental times, the people, whatever they called themselves, had mastered the use of MORE THAN 10% of the brain, therefore defying gravity in small ways, such as in the movie CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON, but not as extreem as some of the ariels in that movie.

its quite interesting...truth or not, but there is people around the world today who have 'harnassed' more than 10%, such as a Russian lady who can small objects, such as a pencil across the table fastly...maybe its a big scandal, maybe not... den exero

MTV still shows video's but only around midnight or the crap on TRL.
I believe this causes us to to teporaroly lose function of 90% of the brain.
      I watch Comedy Central instead.

comedy central is MUCH better. i think they should make a channel that shows music videos all the time, and call that MTV... i guess thats mtv2, but thats on some weird extra channel shit.

I remember hearing something along the lines of the percentage of brain we don't use is 'padding' to protect the rest of the brain in case of accidents. But surely our brain is already floating in fluid to do that job (shock absorbtion). And even then, surely it would have been more efficient for nature to make some special padding specially designed for the job of protection than just growing a whole load of extra brain to do the job.

It is rather sad. I actually remember when MTV was'nt that bad. But now I am confident that people who watch MTV use less than 10%, if any of their Brain. I do think the subconcious has a lot more to offer us if our brains can except it.

This thread should be called "Rag on MTV"

I don't watch it anyhow, I am really sick of hearing what singers and movie stars and sluts think.......who gives a damn? There's too many channels dedicated to that.

      MTV
      MTV2
      VH1
      VH2
      E!
      Bravo

      And so on...

As far as i know, 10% of the brain, that people are supposedly use is located in the outer core of the brain. So if something hits you, it hits your most active areas...
I'm not a brain surgeon, but I suppose that deeper parts of the brain specialize in hormones, not in thinking...

the part of the brain that tells you when you are happy (the hippocampus) is pretty close to the middle of your brain. so is the part that regulates growth.

      Subconcious

I think my whole point is. Most people try on a day to day basis to expand their knowlege and become smarter. But how many people out their are attempting to expand the use of their subconcious, which i believe there is, or I thought, the reason we only use so little of our brain
      Tim Said it best \"all I know isthat I don't know nothing\".[/b]

Hey, about the MTV thing. It's proven you use less of your brain watching T.V than you use while doing nothing, so no wonder people look like zombies once they've watched 5 hours of "Alice in Wonderland Uncut Edition".

I doubt you use only 10% of your brain. I mean, how can that be? Do we all have amazing untouched potential that could suddenly make us all about 9 times smarter than we already are, if we just used all that brain?

Try this "brain usage" thing. It's weird, but hey: http://www.mindmedia.com/brainworks/second...d-paragraph.jsp

And here's something that argues against the theory of us not using 90% of our brain:
      http://www.urbanlegends.com/science/10_per...t_of_brain.html

And here's another one that says it's all totally wrong:

The thing is, it's at any one time, so this means we DO use all of our brain, just in different situations! Now if we were to use all of our brains, I would think it would be something like a computer, using all of it's sensory organs to add to a final solution of a problem. Taste, Smell, Sight, Touch, Hearing, Memory, Abstract, and Computation.

good grief! how do you delete a post in the forum? I went to edit and I just don't see it. I use very litle of my brain.

      Thankyou

Thats more in the lines of what I'am talking about. I don't think that 90% of our brains sit idle, but just imagine if we cuold learn to use all off those sensory organs at will or at any given time, more over the subconcious. What seems odd to me is that most people that are extrememley intellegent are lacking in other areas, such as communicaction. Instead off dumb they would be called excentric because they are smart. autistic people can be brilliant in one area but lack in several others. Ther is a lot more to be learned out there> we just need to figure out a way of tapping into it.
