      Meditation and LD ?

I've recently picked up meditating, as I find it pretty fascinating and healthy for your mind. But I'm wondering if anybody's heard of lucid dreams and meditation having any correlation?

One reason I ask is because my psych teacher told me that he's heard of people who listen to hypnotizing/meditating CD's slip right into LD's.

Or maybe there's even a more profound connection like being able to merge the two?

Well, the MILD uses mantras of sorts, and I'm pretty sure the WILD says something about focusing and clearing your thoughts...I think the two could be connected, definitely. I've also heard that meditating while in your lucids is an incredible experience.

I'm really interested in this topic lately.I started to meditate about a week ago , trying to concentrate on one single thing and calm the "monkey mind".I started it after watching a video on youtube that was saying that it can lead to OBE and Astral Projection. When it comes to hypnotizing/meditating CD's you can google "Brainwave entrainment" or "Brainwave synchronization" and find some products you like (there are some about lucid dreaming) the goal is to get into a relaxed state or deep trance and do your thing from there (explore you subconscious , LD , Astral travel , OBE , or just enjoy yourself ).Also in some of the products you can find good energy work exercises !

Well, I've been meditating for over two years now. I used to suffer from insomnia, and now I don't. I know that meditating helps your sleeping habits, and since you have to get in a relatively similar state of mind for both activities, it makes sense that meditating can help you induce lucid dreams, or at least help you practice.

It also developes mental discipline, which you will definately need for a lucid dream.

I never even considered meditating while in a LD. Given, I'm not experienced enough to try it, but still I could see how that could be incredible.

Looks like the topics must intertwine if you're also interested. Astral projection sounds very interesting, but I've never heard of OBE. I'll have to research it.

Good to hear that it helps your sleep habits. Hopefully I'll notice that soon enough. I have noticed that it greatly enhances mental discipline. It's just so fullfilling.

What kind of meditation works best for you? Ex: Some say that you should let your thoughts flow, while others say to focus on breathing, or make the mind clear, etc.

I really wanna re-add this practice to my habits.

Interesting you should mention this. Someone recently showed me this thread, which I found to be very interesting, as well as quite helpful. Simply put, the things you do in your dreams are only as hard as you perceive them to be. Once you get a bit of lucid experience under your belt, pretty much you can do anything you please.

Uhh, well, Awakening, in my time practicing I've tried several techniques...

The first technique I tried was sitting down and concentrating on my breathing. In through the nose, out through the mouth. Clear your mind and focus on the breathing.

If you're having a tough time, focus on a mantra. In this case, something to do with lucid dreaming. Putting all your concentration on it like that can have powerful effects.

When trying to calm down, just focus on the breathing and let your mind flow, but be careful not to let it wander. You're not trying to daydream.

That's my experience. eventually I expanded it to Thai Chi, too... Also a very good technique.

Every time I meditate, even for only a few minutes, I have a lucid dream that night. I guess I should meditate more often.

meditating is the greatest and i think everyone should learn how to do it. from meditation i have learned to shut off my mind at any given time, which has really helped with falling asleep at night

I strongly recommend a book by Tenzin Wangyal Rinpoche, "Tibetan yogas of dream and sleep"

There is a lot of correlation between lucid dreams and the wider practice in Tibetan Buddhism, at least, I'm quite certain that also in various other schools of thought but I have nothing to ground the belief in.
