Very often we hear of the ultra-negative "you're crazy" responses dreamers get when they broach the topic of lucid dreaming to some close-minded folks, but yesterday I had the pleasure of hearing a guest speaker, a professor also at my college, visiting one of my classes mention, "I like to dream, I go all sorts of places in my dreams".
Unfortunately I had to leave during the talk, but I returned after and asked her, if she was into "Lucid dreaming". She said yes! and that "it seems to be quite rare to find another "oneironaut" around". She commented on my digital watch, a good reality checking device, and I asked her where she'd heard of that particular R.C. She told me, the movie "Waking Life". We both smiled and she told me she likes to show bits of that film to her classes to broaden their horizons.
We actually did a reality check together, while continuing to discuss things LD-related, she asked me about some experiences with some false awakenings she'd experienced, as well as sleep paralysis, to which I responded that those are the gateways to lucid dreams and not to worry. I think I made her day, and she mine.
She's also high up in the hierarchy of the particular school in which I plan to declare my major, "communications" and friends with the dean. I've worked my way into the system by way of discussing LD's.
It's always a pleasure to meet someone like this, and to share such strange and wonderful common ground, especially since she's in a position of authority.
Just felt like sharing. It's refreshing when viewed in comparison to the skeptics we all know.
