Surface Lucid Dreaming (?) HELP PLEASE

Ok. Hi guys. I need some advice. I have these dreams where I seem to be on a borderline between awake and asleep. Sometimes I'm lucid and sometimes I'm not. I can feel both my dream body and my real body at the same time. I can't act on my own accord in the dream because I know if I attempt to I will wake up. It's like I'm stuck between two worlds. How do I make it so I can fall completely into the dream? I notice this usually happens when I quickly fall into a dream after being awakened several times and returning to sleep quickly. Thanks in advance for your help!

kinda sounds to me like your describing HI, or dreamlets.

So if the phone hadn't rung and I didn't decide consciously to answer and chose to ignore it so I could remain in the dream, would the dream have continued or would I have decided to wake up anyway? In this instance I consciously decided to leave the dream.

If your dreams were HI dreamlets, then my suspicion is that as the phone kept ringing, you would have been woken up or at least disturbed from your particular dreamlet anyway. Any attempt of mine to "take action" in HI dreamlets leads to a fading of the imagery. I only tend to get that in real REM dreams, on the other hand, if I'm, say, trying to do something I don't really have confidence in my ability to do - like make something specific appear in front of me.

And I don't think there's anything you can do to fall completely into a dream from HI dreamlets. HI occurs in ~Stage 1 of sleep, and REM is basically Stage 5, following the Stage 4 deep sleep which tends to feature even more tenuous dreams than HI if any dreams at all. (But, oddly enough, that's the time when people are most likely to act out whatever's going on in their minds in the form of parasomnias like sleepwalking and night terrors.) However, if your HI dreamlets are occurring later in the morning as you're falling back to sleep after you did a WBTB or you got up to use the bathroom, then if you focus on both the imagery and the fact that it's fake, without trying to "do" much of anything, it might help you have a DILD or even a MILD. (I think within a short time before you get up, you actually don't go into stage 3 or 4 anymore so you have a brief phase of Stage 2 between the HI dreamlets and the real dreams.)

-LD Count since rejoining in Dec. 2009: 21

No dream goals at the moment...just flying and letting stuff happen is kinda fun, and it's hard to motivate myself to try LDing lately.

Maybe rubbing our hands and touching your dreamscape might help.

this happened to me a few weeks ago. The method that works best for me is WBTB and i tend to fall asleep into a non-lucid, wake up, and repeat the pattern, reminding myself to become lucid, and eventually i pop straight into a lucid.

Since it's so soon after falling asleep, I can still usually feel my real body. I can move around slowly in the dream without moving IRL, but if I try to jump, I'll jump in my bed. You just have to wait and try focusing on your dream and ignoring your physical body until you're fully immersed in the dream.
