      Uber Idea

here is something i have read.

      "20 cc's of parasolutrine in
combination with 6 cc's of paracin
      given IV produces deep sleep
      suitable for emergency surgical
      procedures... no cardiac side effects
... REM activity is surpressed... "

      REM activity suppressed.

after reading placebos 15 facts posts, i had an amazing idea.

one of the facts was that you will catch up for lost REM sleep the next night if you do not get any the previous night.

sooo, if you dont have any REM one night, and the next night you do, youll have twice as much REM sleep. i expect if you suppress REM for 2 nights then have REM for the next, you will have a LOT of REM sleep. after that i would think the effects would disipate.

Anyone catching my drift? use the above formula for one or two nights in a row, then dont have it the next night. and you will have 2/3 times more REM sleep than normal. leading to uber MEGA dreams. think of the potential. if you were lucid then i expect it would be as real as reality, and as long as maybe 3 hours.

      the mega lucid dream.

So who has the means and guts to try this?

Expect this post to be an "you shouldn't do that young man" type post.

Anyway, you shouldn't do that young...forum-goers. REM activity was never meant to be surpressed, and you'd probably generate side effects that could neutralize or outweigh it. Plucking an idea out of my head, ie the good old sleep deprivation, etc.

Or you could drink coffie before sleep, caffine inturupts REM sleep and you'll catch up on it the next night.

      Slightly less dangerous method there.

I agree. I mean, if it's used for surgical procedures, chances are it's not good for normal sleep anyways. Not to mention the consequences. I'd prefer to just stay up...Besides, wouldn't you feel insanely groggy after that procedure? I mean, w/o REM sleep the body can't recouperate as it needs to. You'd probably feel the same after you woke up as you would have had you just stayed awake. And most anything involving IV's is like hanging your butt out the window and waiting for a semi to side-swipe it off. There's just too many risks to make something with as little benifits as that worthwhile.

Oh, and as an afterthought--What if you didn't manage to go lucid? Then all the risks would be for naught anyway.

EASIER WAY TO SUPRESS REM SLEEP!!!!!!!

stay up for 72 hours, therefore having no REM sleep.

      then, go to sleep

thus producing high volume/concentration of REM sleep

      Holy Mother of S***!!!!!

I'm not gonna try it, you try it!
I suspect like everything else, there is a limit to the REM rebound you will experience.

I had a friend one time that theorized that there was a maximum calorie uptake for your body at a given meal. He theorized that after you had eaten so much, the rest was essentially a freebe since your body could not absorb it and therefore you could continue to eat without gaining any additional weight.

Unfortunately, it seems the threshold is > 10K calories
you must be the change you wish to see in the world...

Personally, I'd pick 2 shots of stroh rum before bed. You'll notice I mentioned that in my 15 facts too

Yeah I was gonna say something like that. Since booze inhibits REM sleep (did I remember that right Placebo??), and it's easier to come by than paraculo and parapoopoo, I think I would prefer offing a few brain cells.

Hell yeah! I'll try it as soon as my mom refills her liquour cabinet.

Yep, you got the theory right
Unfortunately my attempts to reproduce the effect aren't working
6 shots of brandy, 1 of 50% rice wine (saki) and 1 of amarula cream .. all before bed
I had 3 dreams, and one even sparked lucidity

ok, people say alcohol inhibits REM sleep, thus inhibiting awesome dreams LD or otherwise, but i beg to differ.

Many, perhaps most of my good dreams have been had after a night of drinking...

But perhaps this is because i have to get up and pee a lot, thereby giving me an opportunity to remmeber those dreams.

      anyways,

Well 3 isn't too many to be honest, I guess you'll have more next time now. If the theory is right.

Nope. It was followed with under 3 dreams recalled each night since then
