does killing a DC kill part of you?

Last fall I had a dream in which I was in a very small house with a few of m close friends around me. I realized that the cards we were playing kept changing value and that the whole scene just didn't seem right at all to me. I realized this and immediately went fully lucid. I had the strange urge to kill one of the DC that I did not quite fully know. So I stood up, puled out a sword and plunged it through his chest, I watched as the life left his eyes and suddenly felt a sharp pain in my own chest. I looked down at myself to see blood pulsing out of my chest and puddling on the floor below. I felt a cold breath on my neck and a chilled hand on my shoulder. As I turn and look I find nothing behind me but darkness and a rush of air. I slip down into the darkness and next thing I know I wake up. It was about 3am and I felt like I had no energy or life left in me as I laid in bed.

Thinking back on it, I didn't feel any pain or regret till I realized the DC was dead. I don't quite know why but it felt like I had killed a part of myself. The feeling dissipated later that day but since then I only kill a DC out of defense, never cold blood, and have never had it happen again. I also have never seen that same DC again. It was just really odd and I wanted to know if it had happened to any of you guys? or if you feel like killing a DC really is killing a small part of yourself.

I always believe that the more we perceive something to be true, the more true it ends up being. That might sound wierd, but I don't believe you really killed a part of yourself off by doing what you did, unless you believe you lost some part of yourself in the process. Maybe the result of your action, (killing the DC) set off a reaction that your mind used according to what you believe to be right/wrong, (Sudden darkness, realizing you pierced your own chest etc). Alternatively, it could also be your mind telling you that DC's are a part of yourself, so by killing them for no reason you are just hurting yourself in someway, blocking access to some knowledge or something.

I've killed a DC for merely mocking me as soon as I turned lucid. A package I was holding just dissappeared, which made me become lucid, and I hear this guy behind me laughing. So I turn around and he sort of gives me this mock stare, so I warned him and then turned him into a skeleton, which crumpled to the ground. All I felt after that was ha, my dream, my rules.

I wouldn't fret over it, but you might want to check out the symbolism and what it means to you.

This makes me think, if you came across a DC that represented some negative aspect of your attitude like greed or selfishness then maybe it would be beneficial to kill them!

But yeah I would stay away from any activites in LDs that make you feel uncomfortable mentally.

Yes, when you kill a character created by your dreaming mind that doesn't exist outside of the hallucination, you somehow kill part of "yourself."

personally I feel like the DC are part of my subconcious and that I am inately attached to them. It was just so odd how horrible I felt and the fact that I went through a death as well as my DC. I have killed them before in self defence and had no problem, ust I guess I am not meant fo rcold blooded slaughter.

See, that's a good thing. Maybe the whole experience just verified to you that you aren't that sort, and there are consequences for choosing that route. Over all, you did learn something about yourself, so whatever you lost, you gained knowledge from it so it can't be a total scarey loss.

As far as I know, metaphorically, if a door shuts on you, another one opens somewhere, you just have to search the right places.
